William Paul has been listed as the son of this Richard Paull and Margery Turner.[1][2] No evidence for this relationship has been found and all records were destroyed by fire long ago.[3] The dates of birth make this relationship highly unlikely. Margery is said to have been born 1617, Richard in 1610 and William in either 1615 or 1624. Assuming William born in 1624, Margery would have been 7 and Richard would have been a mere 14.
Richard Paul and William Scadding orally presented the will of John Briant to the Plymouth Court on June 4, 1638. They testified that they heard him declare it two days before he died.[1]
Richard was licensed to "keep a victualing house" in Taunton on August 3, 1640.[1] He was subject to military service in 1643.[2]
Richard Paul was one of the initial 46 purchasers of the town of Taunton. He had land on the Mill River in Taunton by March 7, 1649, as his land is used to bound the property of George Macey. Richard Paul to the West, George Macey and then Timothy Holloway to the East. He was a member of a jury on inquest in 1650 and again in 1653. He was surveyor of highways in 1652.[2]
Richard must have died before May 17, 1654, since in the will of Elizabeth Pole on that date she refers to her "kind and old friend sister Margery Paule, widow". [4]
May 25, 1680, James Leonard, Jr., was granted rights to land he acquired through the shares in Taunton that were originally allocated to Richard.
This is a total guess based on information from the biography of his wife's second husband
