Ephraim was born in 1755 in Virginia to Robert Peyton and Ann Guffey. He married Elizabeth Jennings, and they had six children before her death in Tennessee about 1799. He then married Lockhart Eagan. They had four children (son Ephraim was born in Kentucky in 1802).
Note
Ephraim abandoned Elizabeth Jennings by 1796. He had children by Lockhart Eagan who was using her maiden name in 1813. She could be the Lockhart Peyton listed in the 1820 of Owen Co., Kentucky with a son b. 1804-1810 and a daughter born later. She may have legally married Ephraim between 1796 and 1820.

Ann Guffey; Ann was the sister of Henry Guffy of Va. and Ky. She was born circa 1725 Walker's Creek, Rockbridge Co., VA.

Elizabeth Jennings; She and Ephraim were divorced by Nov. 10, 1796, when Ephraim signed a bond agreeing to pay $2,000 to John Deloach who promised to take care of the family of Payton under his care, including Deloach, his wife, and 5 children, William, John, Egelverton, Ann, and Molley. She was living in 1804. She was born in 1759 Amherst Co, VA. She died, Sumner Co., TN.
