Woodbury land records

Woodbury land records show that by 1805, Elnathan's father Edward as well as his brother Noah had moved out of Connecticut to Green County, New York.^[2][3]

The last of these records, from 1811, stated that Elnathan was "of Washington" (8 miles NW of Woodbury) rather than "of Woodbury".^[5]

There is at least one record documenting that Elnathan also owned some land in Greene County, New York, where his father Daniel and brother Noah had moved by 1805.^[6]

One of the few Ponds to remain in Connecticut

Elnathan and his children may have been the only descendants of Philip Pond (1706-1750) to remain in Connecticut. Within 25 years of the end of the Revolutionary War, all 7 of Philip's children had left for Vermont or New York along with almost all of their children.

Meanwhile, multiple descendants of Peter Pond (abt.1718-abt.1763), the brother of Philip Pond (1706-1750), still lived near to Milford/New Haven. These included Charles Hobby Pond (1781-1861), the Governor of Connecticut in 1853-1854.

There are few sources with which to document descent from the other branches of the Ponds who had first settled in Connecticut about 1640.

Death

Elnathan died in Washington, Litchfield, Connecticut, on 07 August 1845.^[7]
