Biography

"It was Alice, the daughter of Sir John Cockayne of Ashbourne, Knight, the second wife and widow of Sir Ralph Shirley, who, by a deed dated in the 33d of Henry VI. leased the manor of Eatington to Thomas Porter, whose only daughter, Agnes, having married John Underhill. . . "[1]

Robert Porter held the manor of Upper Ettington in 1444 and when he died in 1453 he was succeeded by his son Thomas Porter, as to his properties other than Upper Ettington, which passed to Robert Porter's younger son, William Porter.[2]

According to Burke's Commoners (1836), Robert Porter of Ettington had an eldest son, Sir William Porter "temp Henry V", and a 2nd son, Robert Porter, who in turn had two sons, Thomas and William.

According to Burke's Commoners (1836), Robert Porter was the 2nd son of Robert Porter of EFFINGTON. This may be a reference to Ettington, 5 miles SE of Stratford-on-Avon. Again according to Burke, as above, Robert Porter had two sons, Thomas and William; and two daughters, Katharine and Margaret.

"In 1509 Sir Ralph Shirley leased the manor [of Lower Ettington] to John Underhill, origninally of Wolverampton, Staffs., who had married, as her second husband, Agnes, daughter of Thomas Porter of Upper Ettington."[3]

"In 1427, John Porter of Marston is stated to be lord [of the manor of Upper Ettington]. Robert Porter held the manor in 1444, and died in 1453, when his eldest son Thomas [Porter] succeeded. . . "Upper Ettington, however, passed in tail male to William [Porter], younger son of Robert Porter, who died in 1480, or to his son, another Robert [Porter]. Thomas [Porter], son of the second Robert, held the manor in 1531, and, on his death on 10 November 1539, was succeeded by his son Thomas, aged 18."

Vict. Co. Hist. (as above) cites J. H. Bloom, 'Notes" from Kineton Manor Rolls, for John Porter of Marston, as lord of the manor of Upper Ettington in 1427.

Porter-6644 and Porter-645 appear to represent the same person because: same father, biographies are similar

Richard Porter of Campden, gent., and Elizabeth his wife, left 13s.4d. for prayers for their souls, at the Guild of the Holy Cross in Stratford-on-Avon.

5s. were left for the soul of Miles Norwode, gent. (1st husband of Elizabeth Porter). [The Register 1406-1535 of the Guild of the Holy Cross (1907)]

Robert Porter was associated with the Shirley family of Ettington (Warws.), Ratcliffe-upon-Sore (Notts.) and other estates in the Midlands. Richard Porter was closely associated with Chipping Campden, Mickleton, and Aston-sub-Edge - - all in Gloucestershire. They are different persons, though related. The will of William Latimer, whose sister married Richard Porter, to me makes clear Richard Porter did not have an interest in either Upper or Lower Ettington manors.

Porter-645 and Porter-6625 appear to represent the same person because: It's clear these two profiles are the same people. Look in the Bio.

BOth have the following info. Robert Porter held the manor of Upper Ettington in 1444 Robert Porter held the manor [of Upper Ettington, Warwickshire] in 1444 succeeded by his son Thomas Porter Both state properties were passed to Robert Ports young son William. Both speak of Agnus daughter of Thomas Porter who married John Underhill as her second marriage. The dates were changed several times by different people. Please merge these profiles unless you have a source that shows they aren't duplicates. Regards, Michelle Arborist Project leader

It looks like someone removed my merge rejection in November, and put another request in, without justification of why they think these profiles are a match.

I just wanted to let you know about my decision to reject the merge request, and to check to see if the profile managers know/knew of any profiles that would match instead. I totally agree, looks like different generation. Maybe it was a typo?? Thanks

Porter-6625 and Porter-645 are not ready to be merged because: 29 years difference with birth years, 62 years difference with death years, looks like a different generation.

I rejected the merge request of (Richard) Porter-6625 into (Robert) Porter-645. The profiles each have different first names, fathers birth dates differ 29 years. Both their sons have birth dates that differ 10 years.
