About the Project

The Bishop Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Bishop name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Bishop name.

As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Bishop's), by time period (18th Century Bishop's), or by topic (Bishop DNA, Bishop Occupations, Bishop Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

Also see the related surnames and surname variants.

I would love to join the Bishop Project. My brickwall Bishop is Theodrick Epps Bishop, b. Va. about 1815, d. Jan 1893 probably in Hardeman Co., Tenn. He married Harriett Joyner (also a brickwall), b. Edgecombe Co., N.C., d. Tippah Co., Miss.

I suspect both their family lines originated in Surry Co., Va., but Theodrick may have been from Albemarle Co., Va. (but I think he was from Albemarle Parish, Surry Co.). Thanks, Cindy

OK, my main Ancestry page has 53 (UK) Bishops on it, so best 'type faster' and start updating and/or moving them across.

I'd like to join in on the fun.

My 9x great-grandfather is James Bishop-184 (1625-1691), New Haven. Our haplogroup is I-FT143024, downstream from I-Y6649 >> I-M223. Looking to discover James' paternity.

If my research is correct, I am a descendant of John Reverend John Bishop of Stamford CT and would love to get more information on the Bishop line.

@Jim_Bishop I hope to join the Bishop Project
My Dad was Allan Edgar Bishop. His father was Albert Norman Bishop. We are also related to the Bonney family through Laura Bonney, and George Edwin Bishop. They lived in the Caboolture area.
My name is Joe Bishop and I would love to join the Bishop Project.

I have many questions and am anxious to see if after all of these years, I might actually be finding answers.

Your friend and possible relative...

Hi! I created the companion category for your name study (Category:Bishop Name Study). Feel free to edit it. The default for the template is to add the main category, but you can add a line to have a different category. See the ONS template page for details. Give me a holler if you have any questions about categorization.

I also created a redirect, so Project:Bishop (the link for the button from the Bishop surname page) brings you to this page.

Cheers, Liz
