Carrie Ellen was born in 9 Apr 1878 to Thomas Pulman, Jr and Sarah Watkins.^{[1][2][3][4][5][6]} She was named after maternal aunt Carrie and her paternal aunt Ellen. She was baptized at the Sharon Church.

Her family was still located in Fairfax, Virginia when she was born.^[1] In 1883, the moved to Washington, D.C. where she attended public school through eighth grade and then worked as a clerk in a department store until her marriage to Ernest Robert Anderson on 25 Apr 1900 at Grace Episcopal Parsonage.^[7][8]. They had seven children - three boys, then four girls (the first two girls died in infancy).

The couple remained in Washington and made their first home at 1229 6th St SW, Washington, D.C. After the birth of their first child, they lived for a time at 922 Spring Road NW, Washington, D.C..^[4] In 1926, they bought their own home at 717 Longfellow St. NW, Washington, D.C..^[5][6][9]

Carrie died on 23 Nov 1951 and is buried at Congressional Cemetery in Washington, DC. (Plot: Range: 164, Site: 223).^[10][11]

Research Notes

Her birth year is transcribed as 1880 in one marriage record ^[7] and 1878 in another^[8]. Since the 1880 census^[1] lists her as being 2 year old at the time, it seems 1878 is the correct date and an examination of the actual image of the marriage license/return will show her listed as 22 years old in 1900.

We see several variations of the name that is sometimes spelled 'Cary'^[1] and sometimes the more formal 'Caroline'^[2] but is usually the 'Carrie.'^[3] Her middle name is rarely seen but is on the grave memorial.^[10]

Son Ernest Percival is not in the 1910 census for the family^[3] but is found in the home of Carrie's parents.^[12] It is not known whether he happened to be staying there that day or was living there for a longer term.
