Vernon Stanhope Rashleigh was born in about May 1880 in Peckham, Surrey (London), England. He was the son of Arthur Rashleigh and Francis Acworth ^[1]. As a child he lived with his parents in Camberwell, Surrey (London) ^[2], before moving to West Ham, Essex ^[3]. As a young man he trained as a wood turner ^[4].

Vernon married Elizabeth (Bessy) Mary Staerck in about October 1905 in West Ham, Essex (London) ^[5]. He was aged 25 years 6 months. Bessy and Vernon lived in West Ham, Essex (London) where they had two daughters ^[6]. Vernon was a wood turner.

In July 1920 Vernon emigrated to Canada departing from Liverpool aboard the Metagama and arriving in Quebec ^[7]. His aim was to better myself. His initial residence was with his sister in Brantford, Ontario.

By 1921 Vernon had set up his own household in Brantford, Ontario, living with his wife and daughters and also his brother and his family ^[8]. By 1931 there was just Vernon, his wife and daughter Edith left ^[9].

Vernon died on the 8th February 1933 in Brantford, Ontario. He was 52 years 8 months old ^[10]
