Tombstones were in cemetery in 1916 and in 1946 and then they were gone.
Andrew is listed as Micheal in some records. I am not certain which was his first and which was his second name. [1]
Andreas (Andrew) Raub was born February 13, 1730 in Slesvig-Holsten, Danmark. He was the son of Philip Raub and Maria Sarah (Scoffel) Raub of Bucks County, PA. Their surname is also found as Raup. [2]
The Raub family arrived in Philadelphia on September 25, 1732, aboard the Loyal Judith. [3]
Andrew Raup and Charlotte Weber were married March 31, 1753 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Springfield Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. [4][5]
They spent the first fifteen years of their marriage in Springfield, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where they attended two congregations and baptized five children. [6]
The Raub family first appears in Knowlton (now Blairstown), Sussex County, New Jersey in October 1771. Along with Andrew Wagner, Andrew Raub took an inventory of the estate of his brother-in-law, Coonrod Teeter, after his death. [7] Andrew began buying land in Knowlton, eventually acquiring at least 573 acres. Describing his purchase of 248 acres in May 1773, Linda Bloom Rossi said, “..this land bordered the western line of the Teeter homestead, along the south bank of the Paulinskill.” His wife died in 1791 and five years later Andrew deeded most of his farmland to his sons. He lived more than seventeen years after her death; there is no evidence he remarried. [8]
The RAUB property, upon which Mr. E. Raub now lives, along the Paulinskill, two miles east of Walnut Valley, was settled by his grandfather, as near as Mr. Raub can ascertain, about 1780…In July, 1877 as some men were employed in digging upon the premises of John M. Raub, a short distance west of Painter’s grist-mill, and about two miles from Blairstown, they unearthed a large stone, under which were found four heavy iron bars, upon which was stamped the work OXFORD in large letters. Before the Revolutionary war, there was an old distillery located at this point, and owned by Tories, and it is believed that these irons were used in its construction, and that they were manufactured at Oxford in this country. The late MICHAEL RAUB used to relate that he heard his grandfather frequently speak of this still house and its British owners, while Washington and his troops were stationed at Morristown and other points in this State.[9]
Andrew Raub made his last will on January 11, 1806. He died June 19, 1809 in New Jersey. He named ten children in his last will: Michael, Andrew, Jacob, Sarah Hartsel, Barbary Shoemaker, Cecily Fries, Charlothe Wise, Elizabeth Bellis, Susanna Cool, and Margaret. [10] He is buried in Knowlton Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Knowlton, Warren County, New Jersey.
