In 1850, Merit Ryckman, a Baptist minister, his wife, Sally, and their family were living in Henderson County, North Carolina. There is a reasonable chance that this family is "blended" in some way, as evidenced by the presence of 45-year-old "Wenafor" Rickman, who is possibly either an unmarried sister -- or more likely, a widowed sister-in-law of Merit Rickman. The children in the household are typically listed in chronological order on the census if they all are the children of the head of household. These children are not listed chronologically, although it is hard to tell which children are the children of Merit Rickman, and which ones are related in some other way.

Two of the Rickman children, Jeremiah and Martha, were enumerated on what was probably the next page, but ended up at FamilySearch on image 54, two pages before the rest of their family. Following the two children are two other Rickman households, probable containing Merritt's relatives. The first is the household of 21 year old Josiah Rickman. The second contains 80-year-old Jesse Rickman and his wife Rhoda.
