Sources

Headstone Inscription: "Martha Finch, wife of Amos Finch, died August 23, 1841, aged 77 years, 6 ms. and 4 days."

Claude B. Thummel in his work Descendants of John Finch of Connecticut shows her born on Feb 19, 1767 and the daughter of Thomas Rowe.

The headstone of Martha (Rowe) Finch at Sandy Plain Cemetery, Cairo, Greene Co., New York lies adjacent to that of Amos Finch (1754-1849) and reads: "Martha Finch, wife of Amos Finch, died August 23, 1841, aged 77 years, 6 ms. and 4 days." Based on this information, she was born on 19 Feb. 1764. This date exactly agrees with the date of her birth reported in the Amos Finch Bible record (see the image from the Amos Finch Bible here). The Finch Family genealogist, Claude B. Thummel, mistakenly reported her birth-date as 19 Feb. 1767 (Descendents [sic] of John Finch, typewritten manuscript, 1965, 110). Thummel identified Martha's father as Thomas Rowe. That her maiden name was "Rowe" is established by that same Bible Record: "Amos Finch and Martha Rowe were married by Rev. P. Dean, 1784."

Martha Rowe was previously added as being the daughter of Thomas Rowe and Mary Rowe nee Kinsman. This is on the basis only of what is widely said on ancestry published trees, none of which show any evidence to support the claim. The couple normally cited as being her parents married in Coryton, Devon in 1768 and died there in the early 1800s. Please see Kinsman-2897.
