Andre Jean Savoie was born on 1 JUL 1736 in Petitcoudiac, Chipoudy Acadia, Nova Scotia, Canada to Francois Savoie and Marguerite Thibodeau [1]

Andre married Marie Therese Arbour in 1756 [2] [3] Uncertain information, see Research Notes (Bourque-573 22:47, 20 August 2020 (UTC)).

They had seven children[4]

  1. Marie Thérèse b Oct 12, 1757
  2. Marie Madeleine Savoie bapt Dec 23 1759
  3. Marie Anne Nancy b between 1762-1764
  4. Catherine Savoie b Nov 1764
  5. Marie Anne Savoie b Nov 1766
  6. Judith dite Angelique Savoie b Aug 20, 1770
  7. Anne Savoie b Sept 29, 1771

The family may have started in Acadie although this is not documented. They certainly were in Quebec (Bellechasse) for the baptism of their first two children. And they lived in Riviere Saint Jean in 1770 and 1771 when their last children were born. [5] He appeared to live near Carlton when he signed the marriage of his daughter Marie there in 1778. None of them were found in the 1777 censuses of Carleton or Bonaventure, or earlier in 1765, or 1774.

He likely died after 12/29/1778. In that year he gave his consent to the marriage of his daughter Marie, signing her marriage record.[6]It is not mentionned if he was alive or where he was living on the marriage record of his daughter Angélique in 1788. Neither he nor Marie Therese signed even with marks.[7]. There are no deaths recorded in this time period that would match him in Quebec, one being a 15 day old baby, and the other born about 1714.

Research Notes

The parents for Jean Andre Savoie are uncertain. Some contend that he was born in Canada as was his father, Francois Savoie who was born November 30, 1710 Port-Royal, Acadie, stating that there is more than enough proof that these are the correct parents for this person. NOTE that the "proof" is a family tree from a source that is considered an unreliable source by the Acadian project. Also note that there IS a Francois Savoie born in 1710 in POrt Royal, but NO Jean or Andre Savoie born in Chipoudy (at least not documented yet in Drouin).

Professional Research Findings
PRDH, which is a good secondary source shows that he was from Oppenweiler, Duche de Wurtemberg, St-Empire-Roman-Germanique, born about 1731[8]. His parents are not named.

Karen Theriot Reader names Francois Savoie and Marguerite Thibodeau as his parents, but does not give a birth location.[9]

Marcel W Landry does not give parents or a birth location, indicating that they are possibly unknown.[4]

Les voisins de Louis Filion André Savoie fait partie des "Acadiens Allemands" et il baptise une fille à St-Charles née le 12 octobre 1757. (From 1756 to 1759, immigrants arrived in Quebec from Alsace via the Ile St-Jean (Prince Edward Island). We nicknamed them Acadians-Germans because they spoke a German dialect and they arrived at the same time as Acadians fleeing deportation (1755-1760). See in particular my study on Jacques Schink or Jacob Schinker, Acadian German who arrived in 1758.) from [10]

The date and place of the marriage is uncertain. That they were married is not disputed as they are named as parents on children's record. But when and where is unknown. There were no marriages of this couple in Isle Saint Jean in 1755, 1756 or 1757. None in Quebec either within 10 years +/- of 1756. Tanguay cited does not give a location, and his information is known to be inaccurate. It still could be correct but at this point is uncertain until a better record is found. Landry gives an estimate of 1756, probably based on the baptism of the first child, no location given. Reader gives Ile Saint Jean in 1756 but there is no record in the only parish records of that time. Reader also gives his name as Joseph Andre.
