Biography

1776 Project
Adam Sharp performed Patriotic Service in Virginia in the American Revolution.

Adam was born in about 1750 in Virginia, the son of Matthias Sharp (Shaup/Shaub) and Catherine (Engen) Kern/Kerns/Carn.

Adam’s father Matthias (Mathias) Shaup's Immigration was on September 11, 1732 as a passenger on the ship Pennsylvania Merchant to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Matthias Shaup and Catherine Engen (Carn was first husband's surname) were married after 1735, when her first husband, whom she had married in Germany in about 1718, had died. Matthias died 8 February 1750 in Augusta County, Virginia.

The probate record was originally published in "Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia, 1745-1800; Extracted from the Original Court Records of Augusta County" by Lyman Chalkley. Mathias Shaup's appraisement was by John Stevenson, William Williams and Henry Downs. Description: Decedent Book: WB1-301.
