There is no proof that Thomas is the son of Samuel Sloan and Mary (Banning) Sloan. But photos and marriage certificates hint of this. The 1851 census shows Thomas Sloan, born in Ireland aged 29 on next birthday with a wife Mary aged 22 and a son James aged 2 in Sydenham. In the 1850's Thomas moved to Derby township and received a land grant in 1862. 1861 census included four more children. Deeds indicate Thomas bought and sold several properties. In addition to overseeing properties, he gave his occupation as postmaster in Kilsyth in 1869 and a storekeeper in 1871. Thomas sold the home place in 1879 and moved to Hamilton. Thomas died in 1893; his widow died in 1911.
