William was born in 1827 to Thomas and Lucy (incorrectly called Louisa in 1851 Census) at Kintbury a hamlet just outside Hungerford.
Having been bought up around Hungerford, most probably in Kintbury, he had moved to Reading by 1851, having married Elizabeth Grant there in 1849. But she died in 1854 and William quickly remarried, in 1855. Like William, Eliza was from Kintbury. He is recorded as being a gardener at this time.
He had a large family with his two wives, as can be seen from the 1861 and 1871 Census.
They moved from Reading, first to Easthampstead, Berkshire by 1871, and then to Yateley, Hampshire by 1881, where William was working as a bricklayer.
He appears to have spent the rest of his life in that area, dying in 1905.
