Biography

This profile, unsourced except for by an unsourced religious genealogy book, originally claimed that Shubael was the brother of known early immigrant to New England, Isaac Stearns.[1] That has been disproved; Isaac's origins have been discovered and he did not have a brother Shubael.[2]

The parents and siblings of this profile are likewise unsourced. There is no record of Shubael immigrating in 1630, dying and leaving his children to be raised by "brother" Isaac as asserted (without source) in the "Appalachian Christianity" book.

Whether any English parish registers or other records support this family as currently constructed has not been researched.

Research notes

The [Isaac Stearns Wikipedia article] cited the "Appalachian Christianity" book in asserting that Shubael was a brother of Isaac as discussed above.

According to the Threlfall article noted in the Sources, the immigrant Charles Stearns's parents were Charles Sterne/Stearns (born say 1581; bur. 7 Nov 1619 in Fordham, Essex) and his wife Martha Lassall/Hasall/Hassell (mar. there 6 June 1609; she was bur. there 29 Feb. 1626/7). From my own research in the Fordham PRs, Martha (Lasell) Stearns was actually buried there 29 July 1626. The elder Charles Stearns was an older brother of the immigrant Isaac Stearns, making the younger Charles Isaac's nephew. So, this "Shubael" should be changed to Charles.
