Biography
Absalom Stout, son of Samuel and Elizabeth Stump Stout, born May 10 1821 lived his entire life in Stouts Mills and died May 8 1910. In 1850 he was living with his Uncle Thomas Stump and Elizabeth Stump Stout, his mother, brother, sister and brother-in-law. [1] In 1880 and 1900 he was living with William Kirkpatrick in Glenville, Gilmer County, West Virginia named as a farmer/boarder. [2][3] He wrote his will dated August 4 1908 followed with a Codicil dated October 21 1909. He never married and in his will left an inheritance to his nephews and nieces. The will may be seen here. In a gated part of the Stout Cemetery, Stout's Mill, Gilmer County, West Virginia, Absalom Stout erected a tombstone for Sarah, his grandmother. A picture of the stone is on the Find A Grave Memorial which names both Hezekiah Stout Sr, her husband, and Hezekiah Stout Jr, her son, as spouses. In August of 1847 he was with Ezekiel T. Stout & George Lynch, ordered to view & mark a road from the mouth of upper low gap run to the mouth of Bear run.[7]
In April 1886 A.S. Stout was appointed an election commissioner at "Rymer's Store." He was paid $1.50 for his services. [7]
