Grace Strangeways was born in Dorset, England in the year 1579, [citation needed] the daughter of John Strangeways. She married Edmund Chamberlayne of Maugersbury, as his second wife, and was the mother of his two sons, John of Maugersbuy, born 1609, and Edmund, born 1622, and his daughter, Grace who married Edmund Webb of Wiltshire.[1]
Research Notes
This family's names is spelt in modern times as either Strangeways or Strangways. It appears from the Visitation records that, generally speaking, the Yorkshire branch used Strangeways and, later on at least, the Dorset branch used Strangways. However, cross-references from other sources are not fully consistent with this.
Information from Chamberlain Association of America, Annual Report for 1906-07, p.72-73. She was a daughter of John Strangeways of Melbury, County Dorset.[2]
