Benjamin Hawkins's will of December 1827 states he left everything to his wife Mary and daughter Polly. Further stating one of the children was to take care of Mary and Polly. That person was then to receive half of the estate, with the remainder being divided between the other children.
In a 16 March 1846 deposition, Molly Hawkins (age 86) provided support documentation for a cousin named Charity Taylor who had married a John May. Mary (Molly) and Charity were not only cousins via the Taylor family but Mary's son James Hawkins married Mary May, a daughter of John and Charity May.
On page 24, under entry # 46 (filed 16 July 1860), of the Chancery Court Records of McMinn County, Tennessee, there are entries associated the family of Benjamin Hawkins. One entry states Mary remarried after Benjamin's death to "old man Dodson" and moved to Eastanalle. It further states Mary and daughter, Polly, have "long since died."
In the 1830 census for McMinn County, it appears James Hawkins took in his mother Mary and sister Polly. In the census there is a female in the 40-50 age bracket which could Polly, and a female in the 70-80 age bracket who could Mary. Since Mary, as stated above, married "old man Dodson" she may have been in a different household in 1840.
