Native Virginian

William was born in December of 1855 in Russell County, Virginia to Nelson and Martha Taylor. He is listed with his parents on both: the 1860 Census^[1] and the 1870 Census^[2] in Scott County, Virginia. On February 11, 1873 he married Helen Alley in Scott County and the couple are listed in that location with four children (Mary, Thomas, Caroline, and Catherine) on the 1880 Census.^[3] Records indicate that the family remained in Scott County, Virginia and William is listed with Helen on the 1900 Census,^[4] the 1910 Census,^[5] the 1920 Census,^[6] and the 1930 Census.^[7] Helen passed away in October of 1932^[8] and he is listed as widowed on the 1940 Census.^[9] He passed away in January of 1944 at the age of 89.
