John Thornton and Elizabeth Lanchberry were married at St Peter and St Paul, Hanborough on 11th June 1832. [2] They were both of the parish, bachelor and spinster, and were married by banns. Neither could write so they each signed the register with a cross. The witnesses to the marriage were William Thornton and Mary Thornton.
Second Marriage
John Thornton and Sophia Woodward were married on 5th August 1838 at St Peter and St Paul, Hanborough.[3] John was of full age, a widower, working as a labourer and living in Long Hanborough, the son of William, a labourer. Sophia was also of full age, a widow, working as a gloveress and living in Long Hanborough, the daughter of John Greenaway, a labourer. They married by banns and whilst John signed his name, Sophia marked the register with a cross. The witnesses to the marriage were Joseph Hopcroft and Caroline Greenaway.[4]
Third Marriage
John Thornton and Fanny Smith were married after banns at St Peter and St Paul, Church Hanborough on 6th September 1869.[5] They were widower and widow, both of full age and living in Hanborough. John was a labourer and stated of his father only that he was deceased. Fanny was a servant and the daughter of George Hanks who was a labourer. They each signed their own name on the register and the witnesses to the marriage were William Woodward and Priscilla Wood.[6]

Death
John died in Hanborough, Oxfordshire in 1883.[12] He was buried in Hanborough on 13th June 1883.[13]
