He and his wife Hannah deeded to Thomas (brother) the house and all the land in Portsmouth, given and appointed by will made by Town Council, being 30 acres, which had been owned by the father of said Samuel and Thomas; In the pamphlet on this family by J.C. Waite note that the transfers of land for this Samuel have been confused with those of Samuel sone of Samuel." (EWT)

What reliable source gives his wife's maiden name as Whitman, please? I'm not finding that the GSMD agrees with this and would like further sources to support it.

Hey PMs -

I posted this profile and its conflation to G2G and got this response:

"It seems the most likely explanation is Pam's, that "Family Records..." book does not cite it's sources and probably just assigned some of Samuel Jr.'s records to his father. You'll also notice on the profile of Samuel Jr. that he appeared in the Rhode Island records as a freeman in 1685 which is proof positive that the "Family Records" book is wrong when it says he was born about 1676 and Jr.'s profile is probably pretty close when it estimates his birth at 1660, making him 25 when made a freeman. As a matter of fact that book says he was made a freeman in 1673 and then made a freeman again in 1685, so that's conflation right there."

Any issue with disconnecting this Waite from the children that have no proper sourcing to connect them to THIS profile's Samuel as a father? That being:

Susanna Waite, Hannah Wait, Elizabeth Waite, John Waite and Joseph Waite

It would also mean removing the other children (Eleanor - b abt 1666, d. May 2 1737, m. Job Briggs Hannah - b abt 1670, d. Mar 16 1724, m. David Maynard Hannah - b. abt 1674, d. aft 1745, m. Judah Brown)

from the bio as well as the website source for them is not concrete evidence.

I concur with Pam's statement below. It seems there has been a huge compilation of Samuel Waite data merged into one profile, etc, etc.

I did my best to sift thru and cut away all the data that is past THIS Samuel's death year of 1676/7. However, the children are a little screwy. One source (Records of Wait(e) Family) lists different children than I am seeing elsewhere. Not to mention those children are born after that supposed death date.

Anyone with some insight want to help clear all this up?

There appears to be two different Samuel's on this profile, the Samuel who married Hannah had died by Feb 1677, the entries after 1677 belong to his son Samuel. Their children all were born before 1677, son Samuel was born abt 1660.

Waite-161 and Waite-89 appear to represent the same person because: same parents, same birth, death date is unsupported

I believe that this profile has an incorrect Hannah Whitman as the wife. This Hannah Whitman never lived in Rhode Island. She was born and died in Mass. Your Hannah was from Kingston, RI per the profile page to the left.
