Biography

Chloe was born about 1771. In 1791 Chloe Wedding was mentioned in the will of her mother.[1] She passed away about 1870. [2]

1830 - Kentucky, Breckinridge County,
The 1830 U.S. Federal Census shows Benjamin Birch, living in Breckinridge, Kentucky. The census reflects one (1) white male between 70 and 79 years of age [likely Benjamin who would have been 77], one (1) white female between 50 and 59 years of age [likely his wife Chloe who would have been 59], two (2) white females between the ages of 15 and 19 [likely Nancy and Mary since Elender was married in 1825] and one (1) white male [likely James Fennell who was 5] between the ages of 5 and 9. Also living with them are four black slaves, one female between the ages of 24 and 35, two (2) females under the age of 10 and one (1) male under the age of 10. [3]

1840 - Kentucky, Breckinridge County,
Chloe is most likely living with her daughter Nancy and her husband William Tuttle. In the 1840 census, William Tuttle, of Breckinridge County, is listed as having the following residents in his home; one (1) male aged 30-39 [likely William who would have been 34 at the time], one (1) female aged 60-69 [likely Chloe who would have been 69 at the time], one (1) white female between the age of 20 and 29 [likely his wife Nancy who would have been 28 at the time] and one (1) white female under the age of 5 [likely their daughter Mary Ellen who would have been 2 at the time]. This is a logical guess given that Chloe resided with her daughter's family in the 1850 and 1860 census records as well. [1]

1850 - Kentucky, Breckinridge County, District 2, 23 Jul 1850
The 33rd family in the census records is the Tuttle family. Living with the William Tuttle family is Chloe Burch. Chloe reports to be 80 years old and was born in Maryland. She is living with the Tuttle family most likely because her daughter, Nancy Burch, married William Tuttle and they had room for her. Her son James Burch is listed next in the census records.

1860 - Kentucky, Breckinridge County, District 2, 4 Sep 1860
The 897th family in the census is the Wm. Tuttle family. Living with this i Chloe Burch, aged 89. She reports she was born in Maryland is reported to be blind.

Buried - Kentucky, Breckinridge County, Rockvale, Matthews-Burch Cemetery
Chloe Burch, born about 1771, died on 10 Jan 1864 according to the website Findagrave. [2]

Wedding-19 and Wedding-53 appear to represent the same person because: Chloe Wedding is my 4th great grandmother. She was the 2nd or 3rd wife of Benjamin Burch. She died in KY around 1870. Happy to discuss as time allows in your schedule.

Hi Greg,

I began researching the Burch family a couple of years ago using familysearch.org. My family has owned the old Burch farm since 1974. On both sides of the farm are the old Tuttle and Dalton farms. When I was younger I met one of the descendents of the Tuttle family. Ethyl Tuttle lived at the end of the road and I would stop and talk with her at times. Also, a kind older gentleman named Louis Hamby was married to a Tuttle and we often talked and fished together on Rough Creek. The farm, as we refer to it, is my favorite place in the world. I love history and wanted to learn as much as I could about the Burch family. It's my way of paying homage to them and keeping their history alive. Last year I discovered Wiki tree and really liked the site, mostly due to the research that you have done. I'm fascinated by your research and love reading through it and trying to connect the dots of history. Sometime last year I was working with my family tree and realized I was creating some duplicates. I didn't understand the merging at the time so I stopped working on the site. I was fearful that I was messing up the hard work of someone else. Recently I started looking at the site again and noticed a couple of messages from you about duplicates that I obviously made. Can you tell me how you learned so much about genealogy. I will be retiring from teaching in May and want to learn more. Any information you can give me will be much appreciated. Thank you for the work you've done.
