Biography

Margaret W. (Peggy) Wigger was born on March 14, 1800, in Greene County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of David Wigger and Nancy Margaret McCormick.

At the age of about 25, Margaret married Andrew Lewis Montgomery in 1825 in St Francois, St Francois, Missouri, when he was about 24. They had eight children - Nancy Jane, James David, Hiram, Lewis Andrew, Lorenzo Dow, Alcey (Alsa), Margaret A., and Franklin Richard.

In 1830, the couple and four children resided in Potosi, Washington, Missouri.[1] In 1838, Andrew made two land purchases in Washington County, Missouri, from the government comprising 128 acres.[2][3] In 1840, the family with eight children lived in Washington County, Missouri.[4] In 1850, the family with seven children were farming in Concord, Washington, Missouri.[5] In 1853, Andrew purchased two plots of land comprising 80 acres in St Francois County, Missouri.[6][7] In 1860, the couple lived with their son and grandchildren in Liberty, St Francois, Missouri.[8] In 1870, the couple resided in Randolph, St Francois, Missouri.[9]

Andrew died in December 1874. In 1880, Margaret lived with her son Lewis (and next door to her son Lorenzo) in Randolph, St Francois, Missouri.[10]

Margaret died on September 27, 1884, in Belgrade, Washington, Missouri, at the age of 84.[11] She was buried at Horton Cemetery in Belgrade, Washington, Missouri.[11]
