James Williams was born on January 7, 1703 in Taunton, Bristol, Massachusetts Bay, son of Seth Williams (1676–1761) and Mary Dean (1680–1746).

James and Sarah Barney were married. Sarah was born on October 28, 1705 in Swansea, Province of Massachusetts Bay. She was the daughter of John Witt Barney and Mary (Throop) Barney.

Their children were:

  1. Joseph Williams (1718–1787)
  2. Abigail Williams (~1730–1758)
  3. Sarah Williams (1739–1826)

James died on July 10, 1779 in Taunton, Province of Massachusetts Bay, aged 76.
