John was born about 1846 in Stoke Damerel, Devon the son of Rev John Prue Williams (1813 - 1874) and Margaret Jane (Gilbert) Williams (1814 - 1873).[1]
1851 Census on the 30th March 1851 John was living in the Cottage on Old Keyham Bridge, Stoke Damerel, Devon with his parents John and Margaret and his siblings Mary and William.[2]
1861 Census on the 7th April 1861 John a shoemaker, was living in California Cottage, Stoke Damerel, Devon with his parents John and Margaret, and his siblings Agnes, William, Maria, Elijah and Margaret.[3]
John married Ellen Hawkins Reed (1844 - 1934) and the marriage was registered in the 3rd quarter 1870 in South Molton, Devon.[4]
1871 Census on the 2nd April 1871 John a Baptist Minister, was living in Llandaff Road, Cardiff with his wife Ellen.[5]In July 1880 John preached at the baptist chapel at Boutport Street, Barnstaple, Devon as described in the North Devon Journal:
On Sunday last the pulpit of the Baptist Chapel in Boutport Street, Barnstaple was occupied by the Rev. J. P. Williams, of Cardiff, who was brought up in this neighbourhood—at Swimbridge. Mr. Williams studied at Bristol College, and has held his present charge ever since he entered the ministry, eleven years ago. He preaches again in the Boutport Street Chapel next Sunday.[6]
1881 Census on the 3rd April 1881 John a Baptist Minister, was living at 25 Conway Road, Cardiff, Wales with his wife Ellen, and their children Beatrice and Florence.[7]
1891 Census on the 5th April 1891 John a Baptist Minister, was living at Rochelle, St Ursula Grove, Portsea, Hampshire with his wife Ellen, and their children Beatrice and Florence.[8]
1901 Census on the 31st March 1901 John a Baptist Minister, was living at 12 St Ursula Grove, Portsea, Hampshire with his wife Ellen.[9]
John died aged 57 on the 7th August 1903 in Portsmouth, Hampshire. Probate of his estate (£1075.2s.8d) in Winchester on the 7th September 1903 to his widow Ellen Hawkins (Reed) Williams. They were living at Rochelle, 12 St Ursula Grove, Portsea, Hampshire.[10][11]
