William was born on the 27th September 1849 in Stoke Damerel, Devon the son of Rev John Prue Williams (1813 - 1874) and Margaret Jane (Gilbert) Williams (1814 - 1873).[1]
1851 Census on the 30th March 1851 William was living in the Cottage on Old Keyham Bridge, Stoke Damerel, Devon with his parents John and Margaret and his siblings Mary and John.[2]
1861 Census on the 7th April 1861 William was living in California Cottage, Stoke Damerel, Devon with his parents John and Margaret, and his siblings Agnes, John, Maria, Elijah and Margaret.[3]
William married Elizabeth Jane Gilbert (1850 - 1923) and the marriage was registered in the 4th quarter 1870 in Stoke Damerel, Devon.[4]
1871 Census on the 2nd April 1871 William a seaman, was living at 39 Gloucester Street, Stoke Damerel, Devon with his wife Elizabeth.[5]
1881 Census on the 3rd April 1881 William a coastguard, was living in Portscatho, Cornwall with his wife Elizabeth and their children Mary shown as Elizabeth, William, Blanche and John. Also living there was a Mary Gilbert a dressmaker, almost certainly a relative of William's mother Margaret or his wife Elizabeth.[6]
1891 Census on the 5th April 1891 William a coastguard boatman, was aboard HMS 'Alexandra', Portland, Dorset for ten days drill.[7]
1901 Census on the 31st March 1901 William a caretaker, was living in St Austell, Cornwall with his wife Elizabeth and their children Mary shown as Elizabeth, Blanche and Albert.[8]
1911 Census on the 2nd April 1911 William a caretaker, was living in St Austell, Cornwall with his wife Elizabeth.[9]
William died aged 79 about 1929 in St Austell, Cornwall and he was buried in St Austell Cemetery, Cornwall.[10][11]
