William Womack was born in September 1795 in Rutherford County, North Carolina. He is the son of William Womack and Lucy Womack. He passed away in April 1870 in Perry County, Missouri and is buried in Whitewater Cemetery, Perry County.
William was taken by his parents, William and Lucy, to Tennessee after 1810. He married Sarah McBee about 1815 in Swedens Cove, Marion County, Tennessee. About 1829 he traveled with his siblings to Jackson County, Alabama. (Son Robert M. born 1828 in Tennessee; son Abner T. born 1830 in Alabama.)
"Uncle William Womack (Buck) married a McBee, he moved to Missouri about 1846 or 1847 from Jackson County, Ala. Stopped over with father on his way remained 2 weeks - had a daughter, Cousin Betty who fell from the wagon as they came [across] the Cumberland Mountain. A wheel ran over her leg and broke it, therefore they rested at fathers two weeks on account of her misfortune. Uncle Buck had a large family of children - seemed to be nice family of children. I think the majority of the boys and girls played the fiddle they had two fiddles, some would play and some would dance they seemed to be an intelligent family of children. Uncle Buck was moving through in wagons drawn by oxen. He died in the State of Mo. Some of his family was living in Ozark Co. Mo. a few years ago."[1]
William and his family settled in Perry County, Missouri. In 1859 he purchased 156 acres of land in Perry and Ste. Genevieve Counties, Missouri.[2]
William Womack has not been located on the 1860 U.S. Census, although probably living in Perry County, MO, but the census taker skipped him during the enumeration.
William (Buck) WOMACK and Sarah MCBEE were married in 1815 in Sweden's Cove, Marion County, Tennessee. Sarah MCBEE was born on May 20, 1796 in Franklin County, Georgia. She died on October 12, 1851 in Perry County, MO. She was buried in Yount Community Cemetery, Perry County, MO.
William (Buck) WOMACK and Sarah MCBEE had the following children:
The last will and testament of William “Buck” Womack is no longer available. Somebody has removed it from the Ste. Genevieve County, Missouri Courthouse. The information here is from a copy of the Will that Marge Clifton has maintained.
The following is abstact of William Womack's Will:
Burial: Joyce Martin, Descendants of Robert Benton Womack and Almenza Evelina Mayberry (Farmington, St. Francois County, MO: Joyce Martin, March 1998), p. 28. William "Buck" Womack (1795, NC) was to have been buried there also however, on the day of his funeral it was so muddy the oxen cart couldn't get on to the Yount graveyard so they went up to White Water Cemetery and buried him there, no marker.
