John was born about 1806 in Fermanagh, Ireland, the son of John Wood, Gentleman, and Annie Wood (nee Knox) [1]. He is described in the entry for his daughter Frances in the New South Wales Church of England Baptismal Register in 1851 as an overseer, of Daryelong [2].
He married Ann Davenport in Dublinn, Ireland when aged 31. He died in 1890, aged 85, described as a farmer, and having spent 13 years in NSW and 38 years in Victoria. He was buried in Myrtleford Cemetery, Victoria [3]
