Sally Smith Wyatt was born about 1759 in Virginia, the daughter of Joseph Wyatt and Dorothy Smith.[1]
She was said to be a woman of great beauty and a descendant of the Wyatts of English royalty.
Sally married William Bibb, a widower, on December 4, 1779.[2]
In 1789, the family were founders of Petersburg in Elbert County, Georgia. At the time, Petersburg was the epitome of Southern culture and produced many notable people including their sons William Wyatt Bibb and Thomas Bibb, the first two Governors of Alabama.
In 1790, her step-daughter, Sallie Bibb, left her a token of her esteem for her attention to her in her infancy, boarding, clothing, etc. She also left her step-brother, John Dandridge Bibb, a slave named Patrick and to her step-brother, Joseph Wyatt Bibb a slave named Pleasant when the boys come of age.
William Bibb died in Petersburg in 1796.
Sally married William Barnett in 1807 probably in Petersburg.[3]
Around this time, her brother Sacker died with his wife dying a couple of years later. At least one of thier sons, Joseph, came to live with Sally and her family for awhile which he spoke of to his descendants for the rest of his days.[4]
They moved to Alabama about 1815 and Sally died there in 1825. [5]
