Hi Roger,

This is a courtesy e-mail to see how things are going. Are you enjoying WikiTree so far?

Have the tips in the New Member How-Tos been helpful? Most of us still have some questions after reviewing them, so don't hesitate to let me know.

I'm here to help with issues and questions about how WikiTree works. You can reply to this comment or send me a private message.

P.S. If links do not work in an email from WikiTree, try them from the comment section on your profile page.

P.P.S. Did you discover that the tags on your profile are clickable links to a page of other people who have that tag? They also control the information which is included in the activity reports which you receive from WikiTree. You can add more, up to 20 total, or delete some if you are receiving irrelevant information.

Thank you for checking in on me. I am slowly finding my way. Yesterday I requested another member to consider combining to individuals. I am waiting to hear back.

I am updating the sources on my ancestor entries. I do have a question about the autosomal and YDNA, etc. How are they added for other individuals. If I go to another profile, can I add my self if they are in my line? I have not found this information in the How-tos yet. Roger

Thanks for your note, Roger. Your DNA information will show up on other profiles when the connections are made between the profiles. You can see it at work on your 2xgreat-grandfather Smith's profile. If you have found profiles for people in your line but your DNA data doesn't show up on their profile, it means there is at least one missing connection.

If the profile is for another active member, they may not have added DNA testing yet or just have done so recently. It takes about 24 hours for the test information to propagate to all the related profiles.

If you would like me to check a specific profile to see why your DNA isn't showing, please let me know the Wiki ID of the other profile. The Wiki ID can be found at the end of the URL on the profile and in the menus of the top right corner of the profile. It consists of the surname, a dash, and a number.

I'm glad that it is starting to make sense, Roger. Please do let me know if you have any questions, even if they seem silly to you. My rule of thumb when I started was to search for an answer for five minutes, then reach out to my Greeters, and then resume searching. I might have found the answer before they got back with me but they sometimes offered a different way of doing the same thing which was easier. We are always here to help.

See you in the branches,

Debi

PS We have a research tool that makes finding reliable sources easier. I use it all the time and it helps me remember different places to check. To give it a try, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research, scroll down near the bottom of that list, and select Research with RootsSearch (use your WikiTree email & password). There are over 20 websites to access from there. You can read more about the tool in the RootsSearch FAQ.

Welcome Roger

I am pleased to confirm and welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

I would suggest starting with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site

Happy tree climbing

One of our mentors created a tutorial for the GEDCOMpare process that I found very helpful. I hope that you will too.
