Good morning Karen, hope all is well. If you have no objections, I will be adding to Lewis Rawley Cupp's profile, Cupp-852. I will be adding parents, wife, sources, and writing a short biography. Thank-you.
Pre-1700 ancestors can be shared by many descendants, so collaboration is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.
The United States Project may fit your research focus. If not, use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find other possibilities. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

P.S. If links do not work in an email from WikiTree, try them from the comment section on your profile page.
P.P.S. Did you discover that the tags on your profile are clickable links to a page of other people who have that tag? You can add more, up to 20 total.
You can only add them one at time. And you have to do their first name and date of birth and date death, then scroll down and do the middle name and places of birth and death. Why not have it all in one place and then be able to keep adding. Its much easier on ancestry and family search.
You are right, it is quite a different experience from the way things are done at FamilySearch and Ancestry. It's designed that way because the focus at WikiTree is to make sure that there is only one profile per person. The names and birth or death date are used to do a quick search for matches. The other parts of the data are not considered in the matching routines.
If you already have the records in your FamilySearch or Ancestry trees, you might find it easier to add profiles using the WikiTree-X extension. The extension can also be used to update profiles based on specific sources.
That makes sense I tried to download the info I have on ancestry into a GEDCOM to upload but I did not do it right because it did not work. If I get it to work will it automatically alert me to any duplicates or offer merges to combine profiles.
I do like the fact there are not 20 profiles of the same person.
The GECOMpare process will show you potential matches between records in your GEDCOM file and existing profile. If they are a match, you will be able to edit open profiles to update them with information from any new sources that you have found. Once you have completed the match/reject process, you'll be able to use the GEDCOM data to create WikiTree profiles.
Because you have to complete the process first, we recommend using small GEDCOM files so that there is a sense of accomplishment. One of our mentors created a tutorial for the GEDCOMpare process that I found very helpful. I hope that you will too.
A warm welcome to WikiTree. You are now a member and can add your family to the big tree!
Click here to start with our New Member How To Pages. They will save you time, energy and frustration as you add your family profiles.
I hope you enjoy WikiTree as much as I have. You never know when you will find a lost family member or ancestor. Or maybe find a hidden family secret about an ancestor. Genealogy to me is like being a detective looking for clues into the past.
Please let me know if you have any questions. I'm always happy to help!
