Biography

Beulah was born in 1894, a daughter of Frederick Oehrli and Sallie Lloyd Pierce.

In 1915 in Philadelphia, Beulah had married Harry J. Lord with whom she had a son, Paul, in 1916. In 1920, at about age 25, Beulah and her son are living with her parents at 618 West Southern Avenue, South Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. The census that year lists her as married, not divorced or widowed, but there is no sign of her husband. She was working as a "twiller" at a silk mill - which means she wove twill, a cloth with a distinctive diagonal pattern.

By the 1930 census she had remarried. Her second husband, Manuel Reposa Massa (1892-1964), was born in St. Michael, Azores, Portugal and worked as a laborer at Darling Pump & Valvo Co. where her father worked. Initially they lived on Bayard Street, a few blocks from her sister Florence’s family. Between 1935-1940, they had moved to Blossburg, Tioga County, Pennsylvania where he was working as a tool maker for a glass factory, possibly Corning Glass Works, which was located a few miles north of the Pennsylvania border in New York. By 1942 they had moved to Pawtuckett, Rhode Island where he worked as a machinist and glass maker for Corning Glass Works.

Manuel died in 1964. Beluah died in 1985 in Pawtucket and was buried with him in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Pawtucket, Providence County, Rhode Island, USA.
