This is a copy of a message I left to Duett-19 :

Skip Sent you an email concerning a Howard Y-DNA profile that has you as the person to contact. Other than his name there is absolutely ZERO information about him or ANY of his ancestors.

Genealogists here at wikitree would appreciate ANY info you could share about his ancestors. Of course privacy is always a priority when dealing with a living persons' DNA.

That said, I'm sure you can share something that will help us here at wikitree.

Thanks again cuz.

Received a one word response from Skip via email and that response was "no". Maybe the email was corrupted somehow and the explanation got deleted. Giving you the opportunity Skip to reply here in public where there can be no doubt about your curt answer.

Those of us that purchased the Big Y-700 test at FTDNA have invested much money to find our ancestors. Is it a policy of FTDNA that is stopping you, or perhaps there is another reason.

Please try to clear this up as I'm sure current and future FTDNA clients would like to know why you will not divulge ANY PATERNAL MALE ancestor of the kit I asked about.

Not even one of his paternal 4th to 5th great-grandfathers ??

I'm not a happy customer Skip, hope you can clear this up.

After filing complaint with FTDNA I was notified by the support team there that (paraphrasing) because of privacy concerns if a Y-700 donor does not list his information then WE ARE NOT going to know anything about him or his ancestry.

Since the only contact info given was Skip then YOU ARE NOT going to get any info on this donor.

Hello Clint,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Hello Clint,

We are so happy you have upgraded to the Family Member level.

Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.

Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.

Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.

Hi c,

Here is a link to Ancestry's instruction on downloading a GEDCOM from Ancestry. It takes some time to download a GEDCOM. Once it has been downloaded, you can then upload it on WikiTree. It will take some time to upload and you will get a message emailed to you when it is ready. The GEDCOM will not automatically populate your tree. It generates a GEDCOMpare report which you work through, either accepting or rejecting, suggested matches. This link is very helpful when working through your report GEDCOMpare Process

This is time-consuming, though can be worth it in the end. Unlike other sites, where there are many trees, WikiTree is a single tree, so checking before uploading will save you the effort of having to merge duplicate profiles later. This process allows you to look for existing profiles that can save you a lot of time later.

Once you have completed the match/reject review in the GEDCOMpare process, an Add button will appear beside the remaining records in your GEDCOM. That Add button will let you create new profiles without having to type everything. It is still a one by one process because the data needs to be reviewed for completeness and sources.

If you have more than 5,000 names, you will need to split your tree.splitting a tree

If your Ancestry tree is more than 5,000 people, you have to download your tree as a GEDCOM, then upload it to Ancestry as a duplicate tree, or upload it to a desktop program, then remove records until you have less than 5,000 names. You then download this as a GEDCOM and then you can upload it on WikiTree. Then you do the same with the remaining names.

You may want to start with a smaller GEDCOM. There is a good chance that your ancestor's profiles already exist on WikiTree. You will only need to add your closest ancestors until you can connect to the profiles that already exist. This will save you some time.

I hope this helps, any problems please let me know

Take care
