Help finding anything about Silas Cooper in Terre Haute, Indiana 1840-1850

Question

My family has been researching for 50 years and no one has been able to locate anything about this particular great x grandfather other than:   His name is Silas Cooper, born in Kentucky,  married Eliza Ann Romine in 1840 and lived in Terre Haute, Vigo County,  Indiana on the 1850 census. Presumably he died? between 1850 and 1853 when Eliza Ann remarried. Father of Samuel Preston Cooper.

I've looked in: google, ancestry (with a dna test), family search, find a grave, vigo county death records and newspapers, and every other online source I came across.   A Any other suggestions as to where I might look?  We are at a complete loss.   Thank you!!

A few suggestions you might try.

See this History of Vigo County, Indiana and the search you see should be flagging each reference to a Cooper. Silas did not come up by himself but perhaps family is flagged here.

Here is an earlier (1891) History of Vigo County.

The borders of Vigo County changed but I think this was before the dates you are looking at.

May be time for some human assistance. Try the Vigo County Historical Society and Museum. They may have someone who can access some records not found online. I find most of these county historical socities very helpful but sometimes very short on available research staff (I have experience as one of the research staff of my local society without much time!).

Thank you for the links, it's much appreciated.  I actually have the Vigo County Historical Society bookmarked as where to try next. I think most everyone has given up by now, but I keep trying every few years or so as more things are added online. I'd really like to solve this, my dad is getting up there in years and this is something he's always wanted to know about.

Found this in findmypast, but originally from family search. She probably dumped the Eliza part at sometime
