Hear Ye, Hear Ye

If you are interested in people who are famous, notable, noted, significant, important, historic, heroic, or otherwise fascinating, then the Notables Project might be for you!

The idea behind this post is for anyone who needs help with connecting Notables to the tree to post to this thread and ask for help, or if you want to tell us whom you have successfully connected up, or if you want to join the Notables Project and get a badge.

Besides checking out the Notables Project page, don't forget to take a look at the Notables List page, where you can find lists of Notables who have profiles which aren't yet connected to the main tree. (For ideas on way to connect unconnected people and branches, see the Hints and Tips on the Connectors Chat page.)

Please remember to concentrate on those Notables who have already passed (died), so that we can see their profiles. If you create a profile for a living Notable, that profile WILL GO UNLISTED and no one can see it except for the PM and anyone on the trusted list!

And remember - Notables should have a Wikipedia page at the very least to qualify. But an entry in the country's NATIONAL Whose Who or a NATIONAL Biography  is acceptable as well. And they should be DEAD!

If you manage a profile for any living notable, would you please replace any Notables categories on that profile with [[Category:Living Notables]]? That could clear out a lot of profiles that people can't work on from the various Notables categories, and also keep all the living notables in one place to make them easy to find, should the need arise.

{{Notables Sticker}} should be put on these deceased profiles correct?  not  {{Notables}} project box now?  There are a lot of 931 Suggestions because people add the project box when the Notables Project is not a PM.
The sticker is for those who are deceased.

I think the box was for those notables who were living - before they became unlisted back in 2018. So the box is now somewhat irrelevant.
I just wanted to mention it because when the change was made that Project Box should only be on profiles when the Project is PM, it added a lot of Suggestions.  I have been going through and changing the 'Notables' to 'Notables Sticker' because many people don't realize that there is a difference and / or they like the Notables Project box on the profiles.  Many people are adding the Notables project box, instead of the Notables Sticker when they create a Notables profile.  There are currently over 4700 profiles that have the 931 Suggestion for Notables.  I have also sent out comments to people when I see that it is happening.
I prefer to convert the categories into links, by putting a colon after the first set of brackets. If they pass, the categories can easily be restored by removing the colon.
I always put the sticker on profiles where the Project is no manager. For me the important question is: Who is the manager?
For the Notables Project, I think the manager is Scott Fulkerson.
I sometimes stumble on minor notables from the past who do have Wikipedia pages, do I need to be a member of the Notables Project to add the Notables sticker to these profiles? The most recent one I encountered in my regular connecting work is Gideon Granger 4th Postmaster General to USPS [Granger-2029]
Nope - as long as you place the sticker on based on the guidelines from the project, you're good. Just keep in mind that if you put the Project Template ( {{Notables}} ) on, the project has to be at least co-manager of the profile, if not sole manager (not required), or you'll get an error. So generally the sticker's a good approach ( {{Notables Sticker}} ). The only exception is living or non-Open privacy profiles. On those we do require the Project to be at least co-manager.

Thanks!

Technically speaking, he does not have his own wikipedia page so he does not really qualify as a "notable"

I am aware that his mother, his sister and his grandparents all have their own wikipedia pages, but Benjamin himself does not.

I read she fell out of a window. She was earlier this year diagnosed with epilepsy and retired because of that. She was born in Russia, but didn't get into the Russian team, so she switched to Australia and was competing at the 2018 Olympics for them.

I am frustratingly close to connecting punk/heavy metal legend Wendy O. Williams of the Plasmatics, but I can't make the connection to her great-grandparents.

Her grandfather Robert F. Williams even has his parents listed by name (T.A. Williams and Mary Byce) on his death certificate but I can't locate them on the 1900 census. There's an Ancestry tree with two different names for the parents, John Lafayette Williams and Susan Buice. His obituary says he grew up in "Sewanee, Georgia" (no such place exists, I think it's a misprint for Suwanee, which is a real place, in Gwinnett county.

Nor can I find his wife, Wendy's grandmother, Isabelle Burnett. Her husband's obituary says she was from Gadsden, like my own grandmother. No luck finding her in the 1900 census and of course the 1890 census burned.

Wendy's mother's side was more recent immigrants from Switzerland and North Ireland, probably no luck there.

there is a Sevanee in Tennessee. It is only 45 miles away from the (current) Georgia-Tennessee State border. Maybe that helps a bit

I'm trying to connect astronaut Judith Resnik. (edit: I thought she was connected, but on closer inspection, no, she's not).

Update - Judith is indeed connected. There was an error in the first path but the current one should be OK. It's still going through her stepmother.

Thank you, Isabelle! She's been waiting a long time to be connected.

I connected this Polish notable during C-A-T (was not trying just happened to be in a branch I was connecting).  He was not classified as notable.  I am sure he could be put in other Categories but was not sure.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Arctowski-1 Antarctica Explorer, he has an American Wikipedia.

His American wife https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Addy-125 has a Polish (?) wikipedia page. I did not put a notable sticker on her profile. was not sure.

Whoever has a Wikipedia-entry in whatever language is eligible for a {{Notables Sticker}}. I added them and connected their Wikidata combinations to their profiles.

I couldn't believe everyone managed to miss that actor John Saxon passed away. Am I the only one who remembers him? His real name was Carmen Orrico.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Saxon

by Scott Fulkerson G2G Astronaut (1.5m points)
Sorry Scott.

But that is not a name that I am familiar wiith. His face doesnt ring any bells either.

I also have not seen any news items about his passing on Yahoo (which is my home page).
I recall him from the Bruce Lee epic "Enter the Dragon" where he was a martial arts master. Some of his more recent memorable roles were the sheriff in "A Nightmare on Elm Street".

He used to pop up in many television shows as a guest star, and was found in many older science fiction/horror movies. He starred in several spaghetti westerns.

When I picture him, it's not as the young man with the full head of hair, but the receding hairline, maybe 30-ish, 40-ish guy with a distinctive voice and those expressive eyebrows that helped you to know what he was thinking.

Guess he just wasn't all that well-known.
Now I recall where I saw him first - it was a made for TV Movie called, "Strange New World", where 3 astronauts are put into suspended animation and wake up centuries later into a new Earth where everything has changed. He was the leader of that group along with several scientists and (checking IMDB) it came out 1975. For some reason it came on when I was young and impressionable about cool older science fiction shows like that.
Yes,

I certainly remember him!    Thanks for letting us know.

I saw the post looking for profiles of the week for upcoming Wednesdays. Renée Adorée was born on September 30, but I'm thinking that her profile would need a fair amount of TLC before it could be used as a profile of the week.

by Greg Slade G2G6 Pilot (682k points)

Renée Adorée would indeed be a tall order; neither her birth place nor her real name are known with certainty. (Jeanne de la Fonte/ Emilia Louisa Victoria Reeves, Lille or Hamburg).

You can find a discussion between genealogists investigating her origins here (in French).

That's too bad. I was trying for some diversity, so Renée appealed to me because she's female, and neither American nor British.

We do get French profiles featured about twice a year (the most recent was last week), so, I think we're actually quite well represented. One of the first men we got featured was also Black.

For World Ranger day - July 31th:

Roy Cleveland Sullivan

Maybe by next year we can have him connected to the tree so we can highlight him in a profile of the week

His marriage and death certificates list his parents. I've added Virginia, Needs Profiles Created category to his profile

by Azure Robinson G2G6 Pilot (565k points)
I just connected him to the global wikitree which will show up on Saturday morning. I will be adding a few more Shifletts in the next hour or so..

He has a bunch of relatives all from the same Shiflett family tree including his wife, mother, paternal grandmother and both her parents.

That's great, N! Thanks so much!
