National Park System online no longer exists for Civil War Sailors and Soliders

Wanted to share that the site www.itd.nps.gov no longer exists. This used to be the National Park Service, Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System records online. I realized this while working on my suggestions this week. I am now going through all my profiles on my suggestions list and removing the link to this sources. You can still access the records through places like ancestry.com databases or fold3, but can no longer access direct through the NPS. May also be a good time for everyone to check their "suggestions" to get them cleaned up :=)

The link that Brian supplied above works.

I got this error on Hoel Sands-1896 for the following source

National Park Service. U.S. Civil War Soldiers, 1861-1865," database on-line, Ancestry.com (: accessed 6 August 2017), Hoel M. Sands; Ancestry.com, Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations Inc, 2005. Original data: National Park Service, Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System, online <http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/>, acquired 2007.

So I went to Ancestry and this is what they have here https://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&dbid=1138&h=1231187&tid=&pid=&queryId=b36d850b8dae91bc1d65cca7d0f0cc2c&usePUB=true&_phsrc=TRc1&_phstart=successSourceas of today

Have you tried this search page

https://www.nps.gov/civilwar/search-soldiers.htm

Actually, that link didn't work for me, but I just shortened the URL and it took me here...

https://www.nps.gov/civilwar/index.htm

... Not criticizing, just wanted to let you know what I had bumped into myself.

Links from Chris and Brian worked for me. Possibly they just changed the website address.  Another example of why profiles should not use only a website address without information what the url is for and information found.

I just googled Civil War Sailors and Soldiers database and then clicked on soldiers to get there

Linda, you're right about the dangers of web addresses. For resources like this which may be frequently used on WikiTree, there's a case for creating and using a template, which can be globally updated if the web server changes (provided the metadata remain the same)—even though this approach seems to have been rejected in past discussions.

I think the Civil War soldiers changed over to this new web address a while ago.  The difference is that Ales created new Suggestions a couple of weeks ago to look for 'domain addresses' that are no longer valid, so sometimes it is a matter of googling what the url was being used for to find the new website.

They did end up with Link Templates.  The NSSAR and DAR are now Stickers.  The previous DAR-grs was considered a Source template which is not approved, although that had been approved before they decided Source template was not approved.

Thank you, It will allow me to go to the unit history for my wife's ancestor, Sherlock Foster Black.
There is a problem rendering this in some browsers...

Google - Civil War Sailors and Soldiers database for the site and once there,  click on soldiers or sailors
