My sister and I had matching coats. I loved having sister outfits. Thanks for the memories.
Charlie......Escorting two young ladies......your sisters.....of different ages, dressed alike, makes an adorable photo.

Here is a family "springtime" picnic.  It is my grandmother, Oma M Allison-Rammel (1895-1995) .... my great grandparents and some Great Aunts and Great Uncles.

Based on the appearances of the people it is a reasonable guess that the photo was taken about 1915

On the backside of the photo someone has listed the names of all the people.

by Bill Sims G2G6 Pilot (126k points)

I love it when someone has the sense to identify who is in the photo.  Now if we can find who is who? (I have some many)  Harley Amelia, the gentleman sitting down, kinda reminds me of my George Washington Hopins II (a 2GGF). An outstanding photo of your family in the early 1900s!  Thanks for posting Bill!

I failed to mention that they are listed left to right...  so the one you highlighted is Francis "Frank" Asbury Allison (1871-1925).
The man sitting is my great-great grandfather Anthony "Andy" Omelia (1847-1925)
And not sure where you all live ...but 'springtime" maybe a little off ... we had several inches of snow last night in SD

This is a photo taken in the spring of 1927 of my great grandmother Phoebe Palestine Morris Long with my grandmother Nellie and my uncle Scott. They are pictured here on the land that Phoebe and her younger sister acquired in the Oklahoma Land Run of 1893. I recently acquired records showing it was her land that she and my grandfather homesteaded.

by Alexis Nelson G2G6 Pilot (856k points)
Alexis gorgeous photo of your grandmother and great grandmother, they look adorable

Thank you for sharing this wonderful photo

First of all, I love Uncle Scott!  Always!  Ride to Live Live to Ride!  Scottie Jr..  Alexis...what a great profile you have of your great grandmother, Phoebe Palestine Morris Long, et al. A true Westward Ho! pioneer lady! Your photo is the 1920s, with grandma Nellie's hat, right off the bat! Can you imagine three tables filled with family history, all your family? More than all that, I can tell that you have the qualities of your ancestors by reading your profiles and especially your own profile!  How you find the time to accomplish all of it is a mystery to me!  Oh, by the way, check out my backgrounds, you might like a few?  Thanks for sharing such an historical family photo.

Thank you Susan for your sweet comment. I had heard from a cousin long ago that they lived on Phoebe’s land. She had some brothers, so her sister or one of them must have gotten her husband’s land. I need to do more research.
Scott you have such a great sense of humor; love your comments. I also love your backgrounds, and I actually read the directions to use them. I thought background 3 would be perfect for the family I used for Profile Accuracy “Fortune” this week. It looks great and very appropriate! Thank you, I plan to use others.
Interesting story about Phoebe and her family, Alexis, it created an opportunity to explore some of Oklahoma and it's history.
John, there is a wonderful movie with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman where they leave Ireland and come to Oklahoma to make the land run called “Far and Away”. Thank you for your comment.
Alexis, Thankyou for mentioning the movie, which I have not seen yet, but have spent several hours researching along with the 'land runs'.  My wife's maternal family is from Montana, with her aunt living in Billings, where it was filmed and some of the Irish scenes were apparently filmed at my ancient ancestral home, Killruddery House, and adjacent  Ardmore Studios......."Far and Away"...... a must watch to carry on the journey.................

Lunch time on the farmThis is a picture of my sister Julie teaching my son how to bottle feed the lambs, I can't remember why she was wearing bedroom slippers!

by Gillian Loake G2G6 Mach 5 (59.8k points)

Hey!  I think sheep are usually born in the early spring (anyway that is what I heard) and as far as the slippers go maybe they just put a spring in her step?  Not a baaa..d photo! Thanks for posting Gillian!

smiley very funny Scott, thanks for the comment.

Wow Gillian gorgeous photo thank you for sharing

Gillian,  When I see the cute young animals I remember taking one of my daughters to the farm animal auction and coming home with a young goat, Stanley, then next week while walking about in the auction ring she wanted a baby pig, but was shy, so I pushed her elbow and she got and named him, Wiggy. laugh

Wiggy Piggy, that so cute!
It looks like you edited the picture. The first time I looked at it, I did not notice the little black lamb. How sweet.

My father with a calf, probably at a petting zoo. ca. 1937

Not sure if this photo was taken in the spring, but it definitely was in the spring of his life.

by Joke van Veenendaal G2G6 Mach 9 (97.4k points)
What a cutie your dad was, Joke.  He was thoroughly captivated by this little heifer!  Reminds me of my childhood growing up on my grandpa's farm.  Oh, the smell of the barn..and the crawdads in the irrigation ditch!  I go back now and then to remind me of why I left!  Thanks for sharing!
What a wonderful photo of your dad and the calf thank you for sharing
Reminds of when I was five, Joke, when my mother taught in a one room school, up north, and the neighbours, homesteading, had a calf in the spring.

One of the joys of springtime: hanging the laundry outside in the fresh air and the sunshine, instead of draping it over the drying rack in the spare room.

by Joyce Vander Bogart G2G6 Pilot (200k points)
I know that feeling, lovely photo!
Joyce.....Let me guess.....a determined look first came to  mind....a cute photo.....
Joyce!  I can just smell the clean linen and...perhaps the outhouse too!  Such a cutie and thanks for sharing a springtime photo of yourself?
Having just looked at the picture (above) of the Sims family, all labelled, and the picture (below) of Nancy, Shirley, and Lois, I can report that this picture was also labelled. It says "Me." I think it is probably my mother. I also have a picture of a woman on a stoop. It is labelled, "our stoop. That's Ma on it."
Gorgeous photo what a delightful girl thank you for sharing Joyce

Easter one of the best parts of spring. This is a picture of my mom, Shirley, and her sisters on Easter Sunday 1958. I will be working on my mom's profile this week, Huffman-2803.

by Stacie Briggs G2G6 Mach 2 (30.0k points)
How cute!  Shirley had it pretty good with two big sisters showing her the way.  Nancy and Lois look fairly close in age, perhaps Lois is the the senior.  Nevertheless, Shirley got a lot of advice from them!  Thanks for sharing your springtime photo with us Stacie!
Nancy and Shirley are actually closest in age. Lois is the oldest. She is 6 yrs older than Nancy, who is 3 yrs older that Shirley. Aunt Nancy is the tallest of the girls. There is a brother that is not in the picture, he fits between Lois and Nancy.

Great shot of this family and a beautiful greenhouse to this day!  Thanks for sharing Mark!  A great looking family, not to mention the floral display!
Thank you Mark for sharing this wonderful photo
The Delaware Park Greenhouses were demolished, along with the house where the family resided, to make way for the Albright-Knox's new wing.  My grandfather was superintendent of Delaware Park, in Buffalo, for about 30 years.

This is a photo of Gisela and Herbert again, but with her sister Hildegard Sorgenfrei. It looks like a chilling trip into the nature. You can see the motrcycle of my grandfather on the left.

Ahhh!  A ride out to the country to get away from it all!  Things were so much fun back then.  Ride the Road Hog Man!  I am just wondering why that wine bottle is so far away from the party  Thanks for posting Martin, very 'springy'.

Springtime is planting time; a busy time for agriculture.
This photo shows my wife's paternal grandfather, Gustav Ernst Petersen, getting two horses ready to go out into the field to plough and plant.
The photo was taken in the 1930s on a farm in Heiderfeld, Leezen municipality, Segeberg district, Schleswig-Holstein, where Gustav worked as an agricultural assistant all his life.

by Dieter Lewerenz G2G Astronaut (3.1m points)
Very cool photo Dieter.  Did Gustav ever race his horses, I know that many farmers would bring their fastest to community race tracks and show off their best.  Thanks for posting this interesting photo.
As far as I know, he never competed in horse racing.
Gorgeous horses Dieter thank you for sharing
Is an "agricultural assistant" the same as a "farm hand"? It sounds much classier. I like that the cat got into the picture too. Thanks for sharing.

Wonderful photo, Dieter!  To follow up on the horse theme, here's one of my great granduncle Arthur George Black, "Uncle Art" with his sister and his team of horses.

https://www.wikitree.com/photo.php/d/de/Black-13346.jpg

yes that is the same as a farmhand.
Nice photo Mark; it should be also springtime, the horses are ready for plowing.

Janet Marion McNab......Springtime 1926......My father left Kelowna B.C. on his Harley and rode 1500 miles south to  San Diego,  and onto Route 80 through Arizona where he sent, ahead, a postcard (which I have) from Yuma dated 22 Jan 1926, on through Texas to New York, another 3900 miles and 3400 miles, by steamship, across the Atlantic, 8800 miles in total, by springtime, to marry this lady, his first wife, and mother of my half brother, Raymond.

by John Thompson G2G6 Pilot (355k points)
Man's best friend and I love both of mine...they're waiting for good spring weather to hike the mountains...so faithful.  But the 'iron butt' ride of your father's ended up as a great 'saddle sore' story, but very much worth the ride!  Ride the Road Papa!  Thanks for posting John!
What a romantic courtship!
Scott,  When I was a child my father told me he hit a rut on an unpaved section of the highway, fell and poked his leg with a toothbrush he had in his pocket and at one time had to wait for permission to cross a dam as water sometimes flowed over it.......back in the day before the time of a "Road King' motorcycle.
Notice that Joyce commented on the courtship, while John and Scott were more interested in the motorcycle.

Thanks, Joyce, for helping out here! blush Would it be romantic that I was aware of these photos since I was nine in 1955 and finally found a place to post them?

Are you going to tell us how he met her in the first place? Surely it was not a blind date.
Joyce.....I did anticipate a question such as yours.  My father's parents served 5 year terms in India returning my father, age 4, in 1904, to stay with grand parents, in Cheltenham, 'til retiring to the Okanagan in 1909 and returning my father, to England, for WW I naval officer training after which he navigated steam ships to India and the Orient before returning to the Okanagan by the mid 1920's.  Janet was born, in England, in 1904, and I have discovered her grandfather was Deputy Surgeon General at about the time my father's grandfather was Surgeon General.......so the families must have known each other with numerous opportunities to cross paths.
We used to have a wall map of the United States to trace our trips on. Your family would needed a big globe!

Most of my ancestors married someone in the same town, or maybe the next town. My son grew up in Kansas, married someone from Taiwan that he met in Rhode Island, and now lives in California. Her sister married someone from Sweden, but Thomas and Candy have no idea how they met.
Now that I look again at your story, I realize that going through Arizona is not the shortest route from British Columbia to New York.

SPRING TRAINING: Jesse Heath Miller, grandma, trainer, and my mom, Marilyn Maxine Boe (age 2), getting ready for the spring triathlon...stretch baby stretch! (1926 Long Beach, California).

Scott, thank you for such a happy Springtime photo. Often I wish that the photos were in color, and this is certainly one. Your grandmother is fabulous, and your little athletic mother has the best smile ever. Besides, I just know that magenta Bougainvilleas are all along the fence and above the building on the left! heart

Gorgeous photo Lee love it thank you for sharing

A wheelbarrow!........if I remember right from my childhood. smiley

This springtime photo is of my husband's aunt, Sister Antonia and his sister taken at her First Communion.

The photo was taken at Holy Family Church in the Linda Vista neighborhood of San Diego, San Diego, California.

by Robin Shaules G2G Astronaut (1.5m points)

Nice photo Robin.  I feel southern california when I look at it.  I also liked your photos of Sister Antonia on her page.  Thanks for posting!

What a nice picture! Thank you! I still have trouble thinking of a nun as someone's aunt, but she seems so proud of her niece! (Do little girls still dress like that for First Communion?)
Thank you Robin for sharing such a lovely photo, and yes— I love your sister-in-law’s dress!
Thanks Scott. She was a very interesting person to know.
I understand what you mean, Joyce. When I married into the family there was Sr. Antonia, and Father Pat, and a sister-in-law who is still a nun. Not being Catholic myself it was a new experience. You know what? They're just like the rest of us!
Thanks, Alexis! I love her dress too. It's so pretty.

I posted a picture of my Dad's baby chickens.

by Pam Fraley G2G6 Pilot (152k points)
edited by Pam Fraley

Pam, your picture isn't showing. Try following these instructions (click on this link). I want to see some cute baby chickens. My father once put the hen and chicks into the bathtub. Don't ask me why, but it made life interesting!

Thanks for your help! I fixed it!
Thanks for the picture. I can almost hear all the little "peep! peep! peep!"
Baby chicks are a good start for a springtime theme!  I love to visit the Cal-Ranch store on the weekends during the spring...to look at all the baby chicks...well, and the free popcorn is good too!  Thanks for sharing Pam.  Without those chicks we wouldn't be able to have any easter eggs to hide either!
Pam,  You have reminded me of the Bantam chickens I had as a child.....with the baby chicks running around their mother, scratching at the leaves under the yard trees in the springtime, while the rooster watched guard.

To follow up on the chicken theme, here's a picture of my great great grandfather, Nicholas Black, with his barred rock chickens.

https://www.wikitree.com/photo.php/3/32/Black-10739.jpg

Hey Mark, Do you think this one is gonna be pretty like his? The markings are similar.

Mark and Pam! I'm so glad I helped you figure out how to post pictures! Much fun.
I’m loving the neck beard. :)

I don't know, Pam.  Is it a Barred Rock?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plymouth_Rock_chicken

Thanks, again, Joyce, for your help.  The book is found, wrapped, and ready to go on Monday.  I missed the PO's shortened hours.
Super photo! Mark
I was so thrilled to find this series of photos, among my dad's photo albums.  The farm was a beloved family place.  It was wonderful to see the faces of those who lived there.

Here I am Easter of 1974 about to be baptized.  In 1st grade, I heard many of my classmates talking about Sunday school and asked to go to church.  Discovering that I hadn't been baptized, the pastor suggested that we take care of this at Easter.  It was special to be able to remember the occasion.  This was probably the last time I sported white gloves!

A very special day to look back on Betsy...on a special day!  Thanks for sharing!

So cute......Betsy......you look proud to be dressed for the occasion. smiley

My great grandmother, Mary Cecellia Bird Smith, was born in May of 1856; and a fine spring day it was. She is the oldest surviving daughter in her family. In fact, I am the oldest surviving daughter of Lucille Dawson Ceruti, who was the oldest surviving daughter of Bird Smith Dawson, who was the oldest surviving daughter of Mary Cecellia Bird Smith.

In this picture, Mary is wearing her mother's cameo, which is still in the family throughout several generations.  You can read about the Bird-Stillwell Cameo pin here:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Stillwell-1172

by Marion Ceruti G2G6 Pilot (360k points)
I love looking at your family treasures! (The cameo and the valentine) Thank you!
Thank you Marion for sharing your lovely photo of your great grandmother. It is wonderful that the cameo has been able to stay in your family.
A beautiful photo of Mary.  The 'Cameo Pin' wedding gift, brought back, to me, a memory of a tradition of passing down a 'Fire Opal' ring to the first daughter married.......as she was a twin I introduced a similar ring at the next wedding.....and as they each had daughters the tradition carries on......

This is Graccie Mae (Goodin) Smith enjoying the springtime.  She was the wife of my 1st cousin 3x removed Frank Smith.  Photo taken ca. 1945 in Illinois.

by Jared Crayk G2G6 Mach 1 (16.8k points)
When I worked in a call center, I had a picture of someone smiling taped to my desk. I would look at it just before I answered the phone, so that I would have a smile in my voice. I don't have to answer the phone just now, but I looked at this picture again anyhow. Thank you.
Thanks for such a nice comment, Joyce.
A contagious smile, Jared, and I think Joyce's comment also brightened my day.
