I haven't been on here in so long, it would be easier to verbally talk to someone as I am trying to figure out what I am supposed to do.

Hello, Sego. smiley

I added the tag data_doctors to your question so that it will get the attention of the members who can best advise you about suggestions.

I have a couple uncommon middle names

1-James Mercias Brown as it is on my marriage cert. His daughter says it is Marcus. I tore the house apart looking for my husband's BC to verify but couldn't find it.

2-Deborah Birsall Smith married to William Brown. This is the only name I have for her. I have a slight memory of seeing a Birdsall spelling but don't remember where or if it would have been correct. I don't have any parents for her and my searching skills are lacking.

I was recently sent some information that has her name spelt Birdsall. It is a handwritten worksheet that was apparently in a book of sorts. I'm just getting pictures of of the info in no certain order.

On the FS Familytree, her middle name is also Birsall.
Deborah Birsall Smith (1804–1863) | Person | Family Tree | FamilySearch

James Mercias (Marcus) Brown's dates 27 Apr 1928-7 Feb 1976 passed in Dayton, Ohio
According the 1960 Census mentioned above:
James Marshall Brown, born in 1928 in Meridan, Mississippi.
His wife: Eileen Ruth Hunt Brown, born 1931, Dayton, Ohio.
Daughter: Anita Eileen Brown, born 1959, Dayton,Ohio.
For you to tell: is this the James M Brown you are looking for.
That's the one. His son is James Marshall Brown-who I was married to. I just want to have the correct middle name for him on my tree. My husband is the one who gave the middle name for our marriage license.

One of your suggestions is

747 Unique name in Middle Name

Which is pointing you to look at the middle name/s

Is it misspelt- then edit it and save. Then say corrected on the status page, add short explanation and save.

Is it just an unusual name that you have a record for - then mark it false suggestion on the status page (don’t say not corrected or it will pop up next week) add short explanation and save.

I suggest adding a == Research Notes == section to James' biography. You can then use whichever version you believe he used the most in the middle name field. In the Research Notes section specify the other spellings and which document or source that version came from. I would include his daughter as a source. List it as "Information passed on to Sego Berg by his daughter." or a similar sentence.
