Pierre Talussier died in 1724, his funeral record lists him as native of ''Chi___'' (???) in Poitou.  Can't figure out what the name of the location is, can someone take a look and see if they can identify it please?

the plot thickens!

Just went through the baptisms of his children from his first marriage, the first places his origin as Suire in Poitou, the 3rd as ''Cimalonge'' (not sure of writing), also in Poitou.

To me, it looks like Chiurois or Chinrois. I don't know if there are actual places with those names, but that's what it looks like to me.

The end of the word kind of looks like a 'y', but if you compare it to "francois" in the entry above this one or "le Rois" on the left of the third line on the fourth entry on this page, I think the ending of the word is probably an 'is' with the old long 's'.

I would say that the place is Civray (now in Vienne, on river Charente). And the other place (on the 3rd baptism) is definitely Limalonges (now in Deux-Sèvres, 10 km west of Civray).

There was a discussion about him last year in a Geneanet forum, without a clear conclusion.

He hasn't found the first marriage either, which would possibly name parents and birth location.

Could it be the town of Chinon?
by Cheryl Logan G2G Crew (720 points)
I thought of that also, but Chinon is in Touraine, not Poitou.

Bonjour,

Cordialement

tiens, Poetou, ça ressemble à certaines prononciations encore existantes ici.  laugh  Merci du filon.

It's  in an area on the west coast of France. Homeland of many French Huguenots. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poitou

I know where Poitou is, the specific village or town name is what I am trying to locate.

It could be Chauray (but the archives - or at least the online archives - start in 1676 and are in a very bad state), and I didn't find in the following years any mentions of a Talussier ( https://archives-deux-sevres-vienne.fr/archive/resultats/etatcivil/n:100?RECH_commune_Libel=Chauray%20(Deux-S%C3%A8vres,%20France)|&RECH_commune_Md5=5cfac3c02a1c811a8df293713b599bf5|&type=etatcivil

then click E DEPOT 55 / 2 E 78-1)

It also may be Chenay, but I didn't find any Talussier around 1674 (https://archives-deux-sevres-vienne.fr/ark:/58825/vta140cb1d66f0e1eae/daogrp/0/1?id=https%3A%2F%2Farchives-deux-sevres-vienne.fr%2Fark%3A%2F58825%2Fvta140cb1d66f0e1eae%2Fcanvas%2F0%2F10).

It also could be Chaunay, but I didn't find any Talussier beetween1673 and 1675 (https://archives-deux-sevres-vienne.fr/ark:/28387/vta9417971e93e15660/daogrp/0/1?id=https%3A%2F%2Farchives-deux-sevres-vienne.fr%2Fark%3A%2F28387%2Fvta9417971e93e15660%2Fcanvas%2F0%2F44).

There is a mention of a Pierre Talussier from Poitiers in https://www.geneanet.org/releves-collaboratifs/view/5253/14600, but the date doesn't seem to fit.

Good luck for your search

I think the Pierre Talussier mentionned by Dominique could be the father of Pierre Talussier-1. I found two records where he appears:

Marriage of Jacques Talussier and Suzanne Caillaud on 10 Feb 1698 in Poitiers Saint-Hilaire-de-la-Celle. What Dominique found is an index of this. Jacques Talussier lives in Poitiers (Notre-Dame-la-Petite parish), but if you read further you will find that banns were also published in Limalonges, where he was probably born around 1670-1671 as he is 27. Records of that period from Limalonges are unfortunately lost. His parents are Pierre Talussier (deceased) and Marie Grimault (living but not present).

Marriage of Pierre Tallusier and Marie Grimaud on 1 Dec 1669 in Civray. They are obviously the same as Jacques' parents.

If Pierre Talussier-1 is Jacques's brother, then he could be mentioned in his marriage contract, which is indexed on Geneanet, but you need to go to Poitiers to see the actual document.
