Was john cantrell a confederate

Question

My 5th great grandfather John Keaton Cantrell 1829-1919 m. Elizabeth salyer is listed on here as 7th KY Calvary confederate. Is there a source for that? I’d love to see it!

You can look up civil war records by doing a search through google or whatever search engine you use just put in something like - civil war records or civil war records confederate or civil war records John Keaton Cantrell.

That's the John Cantrell I can find from Kentucky.

You could try "Historical Sketch And Roster Of The Kentucky Seventh Cavalry Regiment: Confederate (Kentucky Regimental History Series Book" available on Amazon.  My experience with published regimental histories has been mixed, largely because of problems with the data on people who served in the regiment.

The following source lists several Cantells but none in the 7th Calvary CSA.

Yes, he served in the Georgia Home Guards during the battles surrounding Atlanta.  He joined Lee's Forces in Virginia, was wounded and sent to Elmira Prison in NY until the war was over.
