Details of profile causing distress to another member,. How can I make a profile of a deceased person PRIVATE?

HI All,

I have a profile for the father of a living member.  The member in question would like the details I found in the public domain to NOT be included in the public information of the Wikitree Profile.  I have honoured this request as far as I can.

The question I have is that now that I have removed the offending material, any member can still see it on the changes page, and the changes themselves are against the stated aims of Wikitree.

So, why can the deceased profiles not be screened off as private for some additional time, the time limit set by the caring members who have curated the profile in question.  Probably to hard to do, but I also feel that the research I have performed will be lost.

I will not cause further hurt by listing the profile concerned with this question, but would appreciate member thoughts

Much Grace and Peace,

Craig

There are the privacy settings which can prevent anyone seeing the changes log at all. Try changing the privacy level of the profile in question then looking at the profile in "Public view" mode to see what is available for viewing. I am not certain which of the "Private" privacy levels if not all of them will remove access to the change log for none trusted list members of the profile in question. Of course anyone on the trusted list could see all changes.

Anybody who has died between 100 years ago and now (unless they were born 150 years ago) can have any privacy level between Open, Public or the four different Private privacy options. The only time limit is that if a profile represents someone who died over 100 years ago (or born 150 years ago) must be at open privacy level.

That would work for me, but the system refused to change privacy on the profile when I wrote the question.  It now does allow that change and it has been made.  Thanks.

well, only Wikitree members can read the changes log as far as I know, although I could be wrong.  And there are various privacy levels one can use, if there are living children you can use the yellow/amber one.
