Sub-Category/ Old Cemetery name vs Current name. [closed]

Sub-Category banner should match preferred name? Concerning my understanding, usually WikiTree & Find A Grave list current cemetery name and then list the older (other) names as "also known as" but the banner uses the current (driveway sign) name.  That said, have  Category: Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, sub-category Etna Cemetery, Etna, Pennsylvania (0.2.0) using past name while using the current name " First Congregational Church Cemetery" as the "also known as"  Seems backwards and does not fit normal operating practices. With the preferred name being the current name and the Category Banner also being the current name does not hurt the people buried in Etna Cemetery in 1936. I'm pretty sure Google sees (aka) "also known as" and can send you to 'First Congregational Church Cemetery?  Flipping the name in Wikitree would line up with find A Grave if that has any value?  That you for helping. Before making a change, which I am happy to do since as you say it seems to be generally known as the First Congregational Church Cemetery, I would point out that the category says "The cemetery dates back to the 1870s and is currently connected to the First Congregational Church of Etna as of 2019. The cemetery is sometimes referred to as the First Congregational Church Cemetery." This suggests that at some stage it was not connected to the First Congregational Church. If that is the case then Etna Cemetery would be the correct choice as the First Congregational Church Cemetery might not appear on older records.

Greeting again and thank you again for helping. I do understand that the Congregational Church has not been a long time overseer of this property ....very good point indeed. I also am not afraid of exceptions to a general rule.  I can only add that every cemetery that  goes through a name change has an identity ( crisis ) issue for a period after the change. If we knew (there is that IF thing) that the Congregational Church identity was a permanent thing it would be an easy Wikitree change. Having the [[ banner ]] match the name is important, some listings are not together on that point.  I guess my only other point was Find A Grave which as you know is often the only source that confirm the final resting place is using the Congregational Church ID. When you drive up to the cemetery it does not mention the older name ?  Being an 1870 cemetery is fairly common, not a factor here.  I'm 60% in favor of changing the current name .... maybe the answer is holding off for more input from others. I'm really an airplane expert and not a skilled genealogist. I absolutely respect your answer and will be good with not changing.  best regards

Hi Greg. .... maybe the answer is holding off for more input from others .... Yes I think I would prefer to do that for a few days to see if any one else responds and in the meantime I will take it up with another Cemeterist of my acquaintance.

I personally go with what the sign says at the cemetery. That is what people will see when they go to find the loved one's resting place. I do make sure to put the AKA in but I feel it should be what the sign says.

edit: I also find that way it is more correct with the time of most of the burials. With locations we stay as close to the time frame as we can so I try to stay with the time frame of cemeteries also.

Thank you David and Lisa, I think together we made it better. I am still trying to be a better "reporter" with the ability to say more with less words. Adding, I'm thankful for "fixer's" ....when I grow up I hope to be one someday.  Yes, 70 people saw our working together...very cool.   GW
