Should I change LNAB for Herron-2955 to Stott?

Since creating the profile for Joseph Kennedy Herron I found the 1855 birth record that shows his last name as Stott, his mother's maiden name, and the marriage between father Richard Herron and Isabella Stott was after Joseph's birth. (To complicate matters, when Joseph was born his mother was married to William Forrest, although I do not believe that William was Joseph's father.) Every record after 1855 lists his name as Herron (or Heron). I think I should probably change his LNAB to Stott and have Herron as his "Current Last Name". Is that the appropriate course of action?

If the birth registration gives his LNAB as Stott it should be entered on Wikitree as that. Then explain his other last name/names in the Bio. You can also enter his extra surnames under "other last names" in the info boxes.

Lorraine is quite right about LNAB.

If Joseph used the name He[r]ron during his life and his death was recorded under that name, it becomes his Current Last Name.

If at some time there was a record for him under the name Forrest, that would be an Other Last Name. But, Glen, it sounds as if so far you haven't found such a record.
Thank you both. That's what I thought, and have now done. Changing a LNAB is not something I do lightly so if I have any doubt I like to get a second opinion first.

If one knows the information is wrong, for instance if you are privvy to the correct Birthname it is preferable that it is used.

Unfortunately a lot of people doing Family Trees get information messed up and with Computers if the wrong information is put in , you get a lot of Garbage out.

Wikitree has a policy of information being Sourced to ensure the Information is as Accurate as it can be
