I am researching my Kenyon line which I have traced back to around 1817 in Blackburn and Thomas and Dinah Kenyon as my oldest direct ancestors on that line. If anyone is related I'd love to hear your results.I have hit a wall pre 1817 but know they were predominantly in the Blackburn/Darwin area of Lancashire.

Hi Bob!  Welcome to WikiTree! I am Dave Draper and I am delighted to see you join our community. Here, we are passionate about building a single family tree and discovering our ancestry. I hope you find WikiTree as exciting and rewarding as I have. There is a learning curve so here is a link that might help you get started. WikiTree How To Here is How To Do IT

Please feel free to ask anyone about anything on this G2G forum!

That being said, some pretty neat things will happen as you enter your pedigree into the system. You may find that some your family has already been profiled here by cousins you never knew you had!

Here is an illustration:  Right now you are not connected to the WikiTree, so it makes it a little difficult for us to figure out how we are related to you.  Right now your tree is sort of floating in mid air.

Illustrated another way: You can't get a vacuum cleaner to run with out plugging the cord into the electrical outlet. Likewise, when your pedigree is plugged into the WikiTree, the connection finder will suck in every ancestor you never knew you had and populate your family tree automatically. That's what happed to me! That is what has happened to everyone of us here on WikiTree. That is the magic of WikiTree!

To connect to the tree, you will need to keep adding your grandfathers and grandmothers in our system until your personal tree hooks into our community tree. Once someone in your pedigree merges with the same person already profiled here, you will be connected to the WikiTree! Then you will find who you seek and so many more! Presidents, Mayflower passengers, movie stars, Kings and Queens are all related or connected to you. You don't know it yet but you are related or connected by a marriage to half the members on this site!

So please keep adding your pedigree and if you get stuck, we are here to help.

Hi Bob,

I am a group administrator of the Kenyon Project at Family Tree DNA. It is a non-paid volunteer position. Our group focuses on Y-DNA, which follows the paternal line. We have members predominantly from England and the United States. We have discovered there are two main Kenyon lines in England, unrelated in genealogically relevant time. One of our administrators lives in England, Dorset area.

I have personally found following the paper trail can be tricky as the two lines both lived in Lancaster County during the same time period.

FTDNA is currently having a Father's Day sale running until June 18. If you think you might be interested, you can check it out on their website.

Cheers,

Marilyn Kenyon

Here is the Kenyon DNA Project on FamilyTreeDNA.com.  https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/kenyon/about  And here is the page that tells about the YDNA test sale. https://www.familytreedna.com/products/y-dna  The YDNA is passed from each father to each of his sons, so you may have genetic matches on your paternal Kenyon line of forefathers.  In my opinion, you can start with the basic YDNA37 marker test and if you want to upgrade your test to more markers, you can later.  They store your test results for around 25 years, so later upgrade is readily available.

Hi Bob,

Just a follow-up to the comment I made to you earlier. I mentioned your post to the other administrator who lives in England. He wanted me to mention to you that we have a couple of other members in the dNA project with Blackburn/Dawen connections. The Blackburn records are complex. If you would like, I can put you in contact with him.

Just let me know.

Marilyn
