I did this (multiple place names by date) once when I knew the dates. I hope you can find the dates.
I would like to add a category for Ripley Township, Bond County, Illinois (which is now Old Ripley Township) but don't know the dates for the name change. (1889?)
I am also assuming that the village of Ripley was still New Berlin in 1870 (now Village of Old Ripley) so that the reference in the 1870 Census of 'Ripley (location info), Bond, Illinois' is for Ripley Township.
There is a Ripley in Brown County also.
