Celinda Delosh (abt. 1838) Shared wife by two civil war veterans?

Hi Wikitreers,

I’m scratching my head trying to figure this out. We have two veterans same LNAB. A Daniel Richards (1824) and David Richards (1840 - 1899) they both served in the 106th NYV Company H. The wife Celinda Delosh (abt. 1838) was attached to Daniel. Celinda’s FindAGrave Memorial has her attached to David?

Are the two men one in the same? Who belongs to who?

Any collaboration is appreciated

Thank you

Take at look at Daniel's son, Daniel (Richards-19166). The record for him is a 1870 census. Click the census and it reads David, son of David Richards.

I did not check the rest of Daniels children. But it looks like his records may be comingled with David (or as you suggest, he is David).

Looking at their ages. Daniel is age 38 when enlisting. He deserted. David was age 22 and served the 3 year duration.

Celine’s is closer in age to David as she was born abt. 1838. If she was the wife of Daniel she would of been about 14 years younger than him

I think they are two different men with some conflation here. A good source marriage record etc will be needed.

The 1870 census record seems to belong to David’s profile
Maybe Celinda was married to Daniel (14 years is not that much), maybe when he deserted he also disappeared. Maybe David stepped in, and married Celinda (happens).

It will be interesting to figure this out.

That would be an interesting twist laugh

How many other children attributed to Daniel have sources that belong to David's children.  There are quite a few children listed as Daniel's. But if those are mostly David's children, then the marriage of Daniel to Celinda becomes a question.  Like you said, finding solid marriage records would be the key.
