And so it begins...

Good morning! My name is Liz, though in the coming months I aim to legally change my name and will be reintroducing myself then I suppose.

I've been on the journey of trying to discover my own ancestry for many years now, as I was adopted by my biological uncle when I was 4, and have little knowledge of my history. So far, I'm still trying to verify the accuracy of existing connections past my paternal grandfather's mother, and if those are accurate, begin piecing together the rest of my tree from Scotland and the UK and beyond.

I've been using FamilySearch for this endeavor, and I'm slowly working on porting what I have over (I'm not familiar with how to download a GEDCOM just yet, and I am often researching on the side at work, where I can't do that anyways).

Looking forward to connecting the dots of my family tree, finding out more about where my roots go, and sharing that information with others!

As an FYI: FamilySearch/Family Tree does not have the functionality to export a gedcom. However, you can synchronize your family tree there with some genealogy programs (RootsMagic is one of several). From those programs you can export a gedcom.
Legacy also syncs with FamilySearch.

You might want to try using the WikiTree Sourcer browser extension. It will help you create a WikiTree profile from a FamilySearch profile - including all the sources. More documentation on using it to do this is here and here.

Oh my goodness! This is going to be very helpful. I also found the "match" tool within WikiTree that helps you find possibly FamilySearch profiles that match existing WikiTree profiles and vice versa. That has been helpful too!

I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors! Just for your information, a GEDCOM is usually used in conjunction with Genealogy software. It is a format that can be transferred from software program to software program. You don't need to use it if you are building on FamilySearch and WikiTree.
