I've been working on some Bergen NJ ancestors from the 17th century (Thanks to Ellen Smith for her support!) and found this at the New Amsterdam History Center. Thought maybe other WikiTreers might enjoy it:

Thank you for posting this interesting information. It's always good to have some context in regards to the Dutch heritage (and more European ancestors).

Hi Margreet,

I agree entirely. I have greatly enjoyed the work done on New Netherlands Biographies (just discovered Walichs-2, which I highly recommend for anyone interested in Bergen). I realize that individual WikiTree profiles can't include too much of the historical context, but it is fun learning about what was going on at the time our ancestors were living.

Nice history.  Sad about the native peoples, but the same tale is told most everywhere east of the Mississippi (with the notable exception of the Seminoles in Florida).

I was especially interested in the picture of the house frame (minus the chimney).  It sure looks accurate to me!

Thanks so much for sharing a tantalizing resource.
