Montevideo Maru Mini Monthly Challenge

Question

The Australia Project are conducting the Montevideo Maru Monthly Mini Connector Challenge 2024. 1055 POWs were lost on this ship. The profiles already exist. The attempt is to connect as many as possible in 2024 (as of 31 Jan: 652 to go)

February's Challenge is now open to all

5 profiles are as yet unspoken for:
1 from New South Wales
1 from Western Australia
1 from England
1 from Scotland
1 from Norway

This is a great initiative, Amanda, thank you for setting it up!

I am pleased to report that I have connected three Montevideo Maru POWs today:

• John William Hayes (1918–1942)
• Clarence Fred Whitty Hicks (1900–1942)
• Donald George Allan Heffer (1904–1942)

John is connected to the big tree via his parents (already had established profiles), while Clarence I connected to both his mother whose mini tree I was working on (unconnected until now to the main tree), and to his wife who is already 'big tree' connected. I connected Don to his wife (a blood-relation of my partner's that I added to the 'big tree' in November 2023).

Thanks for letting me know. The profiles on the list have been vetted unfortunately they ones you have done have not. But they will be picked up at the end of the month when I do the stats. I have a master list of unconnected POWs and they can be vetted then before being removed so no probs. (The vetting just involves some minor issues and adjustments that have arisen on each of the Montevideo Maru profiles)

The aim is to reduce the unconnected POW's single profiles which as of 31 January was down to 652 so any help is gratefully accepted.

Update all profiles on the list have now been "spoken for"

As of today 25 profiles have been connected

The next challenge will be opened to the Australia Project on 1 March and on g2g on the 8th.
