We're doing a demo presentation today to show the folks here at RootsTech what WikiTree is all about.  We'll be showing them our awesome G2G forum so post here, say hi and share something you love about WikiTree!

Greetings and Salutations people of Rootstech 2016. I've been a member of Wikitree for just over a year and love it. I've have been contacted by 8 distant cousins who all found me through my searches and information posted on Wikitree. It's a great site to share my family information for my neices and nephews that don't have the money to join genealogy pay sites.............just like me. Wikitree is easy to use once you know the ropes and is full of guides to help in any area you run into trouble. If not , a simple question will get plenty of answers on the forums. I've also had many of mentors and friendly stranger's also help me out when needed or just to point out an easier method or point out mistakes in both information and etiquette. Great site.

Hi,

I love the concept of ONE tree. One tree that's right, not multiple incorrect trees that just sprout more incorrect trees, like suckers on a plant. If you want your tree strong, you cut away the suckers at the bottom.

Wikitree has some wonderful people, good genealogists who are striving to make one accurate, well sourced family tree. We're not there, yet. But then, think how long it takes to grow an oak tree from an acorn. Wikitree is only beginning to grow. We will one day be that mighty oak.

Yes, I have a couple of bogus connections I made when I started out in genealogy about 2002.  I saw some censuses with Stephen Dardingers in them in Ohio and West Virginia and they had children with the same names like John and Mary and even Jacob so I assumed they were the same family.  Later, once I arranged things I realized there were two separate Stevens and corrected my tree, but by then I'd allowed Genealogy.com to upload my tree and they published it as part of their series of CDs that they sold.  I still see people either having my old uncorrect tree or making the same wrong connection.

I'd like to give a great big HELLO to everyone at RootsTech 2016.

There is no better site for collaboration concerning your ancestry than Wikitree. People that contribute here range widely in skill level, but all are welcome.

At the end of the day, because of careful collaboration, the profiles on Wikitree are becoming quite accurate. Good examples of this can be seen in our Profile of the Week Project and our Magna Carta Project.

Also, Wikitree provides a friendly atmosphere for collaboration. The Week End Chats held on G2G give the members a chance to know each other a little better. It is fun to get to know others around the world on a more personal level.

I welcome you all to check it out & see how you can contribute.

Hello RootsTech 2016,

The feedback from other WikiTree members is great, but being a free site you also have the feedback from individuals who use a search engine to check out their ancestors.

Also the "one person one profile" makes for better accuracy. Instead of duplicating errors through many people copying the mistakes of others onto a personal tree, collaboration pools the research of many to refine, source and document the best research results onto a single profile.

It is a work in progress though and we all realize that so G2G allows us to hash out the concerns and look for better ideas and solutions to our problems. It also provides a training ground for new members.

Hello, RootsTech!

I love the ability to collaborate with people all over the world and get help from people in other countries where I'm less familiar with the sources. It's great to be able to ask a question and point to the profile of someone I'm researching so others can look at my work and my sources and make suggestions for ways I might be able to break through my brick wall. I also love the ability to easily share information with family members and provide them with much more than just a list of names and dates.

Hello Rootstech 2016.

Do you know Wikitree ? ... Right it's just a genealogy site. So why would you join if it is simply another genealogy site ?

My answer:  ''' Why not''' ... because it is not a simple genealogy site.  It's THE site for genealogists from around the world.  A world wide family tree.  

I have been a member for a few years now and I love it.  First, the Greeters help you to join, then the Mentors will help you through all the projects, categories, profiles so you can add your family to the big tree.

It's a great community and we help each other.

There is also our G2G Forum, a great place for discussion, ask for research help or simply share our family pictures.

So if you're not a member, a Wiki-genealogist, it's time you join the party :)
